Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

I went to the spa to work out, and didn't eat before I left. I did a mile and half on the TM and then went to muscle-up, I felt pretty weak at muscle-up and couldn't lift as heavy as normal, I know better, but I was trying to be tough and cut back on my calorie intake.  DUMB. Tonight I will go the the gym and get in a half hour of cardio to get my 2 hours in.

Did the treadmill tonight.  I got my 2 hour goal in.

I can not eat before I run, but I can eat before I do weights. Either way, I feel sick!!! How is the weight loss going so far??? Losing weight stinks, but it is my goal for this year----forget racing, I just want to be skinny!

From leslie peterson on Tue, Jan 05, 2010 at 10:45:24 from 174.52.158.81

Kelli, I need to eat before I do anything physical or I bonk. I know better, and get in trouble every time I don't. I am down 4 pounds since the 1st and want 6 more off before Painters. Then I want to lose 5 more pounds by my birthday on March 19, and then I...... oh crap, I have along way to go, but I am trying to make mini goals.

How are you doing on your weight loss efforts? It does stink.

From Kelli on Tue, Jan 05, 2010 at 16:47:25 from 71.219.96.112

Everything I have lost since the 1st was probably water. The pills I have to take this month are making me retain water, so this weekend I combated that by guzzling water all day. I am so sick of water, but it worked. I did give in and drink a diet coke today, I decided I have earned it!!!

As of today, I weigh 141. My ultimate goal has always been 135, but I was at 137 a few weeks ago and I can tell you, 135 is no longer going to cut it. I am chubbier in the belly now than when I weighed 150. I am not sure why, but I am. So, the weight goal is just something to work for, what I want is the belly fat mostly gone (some will stay, I have 5 kids that ave stretched my belly skin out a little too much).

SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!! But this year is all about losing weight and staying there. No racing, hard training makes me gain weight. I will still do races, I am just not going to worry about my time and go all crazy training for them.

Kelli, well here we go again! This is the year!!! Of course I think you are total perfection, but I understand we are all hard on ourselves, so I am just going to wish you luck to make it to your goal. I think in the perfect world 140 for me would be the best, but I made it to 145 4 years ago, felt fabulous and then immediately gained 5 pounds. I need to figure out the right formula. Good luck to us both!!!! Still checking in with WW?

From Kelli on Tue, Jan 05, 2010 at 18:22:29 from 71.219.96.112

I actually made it to WW every month last year!! I usually went on the last possible day, but I made it. It helps me to know someone is going to see my weight and know whether I have gained or lost, it is a little motivation. When I track points, I do really well. So, I am determined to track every day for the month of January, and then hopefully make it a habit. I get tired of it, so I quit, but then I gain weight. WW works really well for me because it allows me to eat pizza and candy when i want to!!! How about you?

I am not perfection, weight really is arbitrary. I was reading the WW magazines at the library and someone my height and 149 pounds was a teeny size 4. It all just depends on where you carry it, and I carry it all in my belly (and back, gotta love back fat!) I am always looking at the weight loss success stories on TV and online and in magazines to find people my height just to see the differences in weights and sizes. BUT, I am healthy, dang it!

From leslie peterson on Tue, Jan 05, 2010 at 18:54:52 from 174.52.158.81

That is great WW helps, I always cheat. I haven't found my magic bullet, I thought training for the 50 and bootcamp would do it, and the harder I work out the more I need to eat, but not working out isn't the answer either, so I am still searching, but like you say Kelli, I am healthy!!! We do have that going for us! We will do it!!!!!

From Smooth on Tue, Jan 05, 2010 at 19:21:19 from 174.23.217.47

I usually eat something in the morning even if it's just a yogurt or banana and drink before my runs. Lately though I feel like a blimp so I just eat a few pretzels with a glass of EmergenC. Skipping breakfast is really bad for me b/c I end up stuffing my face from 4pm on till I go to bed. Then the bad cycle starts all over again.

OK, you're an inspiration to me, I'm going to go to bed early and stop eating after 8pm; then get up early to eat a good breakfast. I need to drop 6 lbs before Painter's. Is that possible?

I should add strength training to my routine too. I heard you burn more calories doing weights than running!

From leslie peterson on Tue, Jan 05, 2010 at 19:32:45 from 174.52.158.81

Oh Smoothie, that is my number too! 6 pounds by Painters! It will be tough, I am going to try!!! I need your energy! I know the strength training helps!
