Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

My focus this week is to do two a days, run in the morning and then at least 30 min. at the gym at night with Harold. It is so easy to sit our fannies on the couch at night and be lazy old folks, so this is our mission! Last night we went to the gym and did 30 min. on the elipitical machine.

This morning I did a muscle up class ( this deserves a huge hoorah!)  One hour of pure hell. Then since it was so icy out and I was already at the gym I did 3 miles on the treadmill, it took me 37 min., I couldn't go any longer, it was so painfully boring. Just plain ol' gave up.  My give a damn got busted!  ( Oh, do I love that phrase and song!)  I will go to the gym tonight and get the rest of my miles in.   I hope no one slipped on the ice this morning, and for those of you who ventured out, Yeah for you!!!!

Good workout!!! You are no old fanny sitting granny! (that sentence cracks me up) You are SMOKIN'!!!

From leslie on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 14:16:03

Marion, what is your route like for the tempo run? Hills, flats? Is it the same route you did the last two days? I have never really offically said I am doing a tempo run, so this seems kinda scarey. Any tips?

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 14:17:20

GOOD JOB ole'fanny sitting granny. (Marion, I can't resist, that's hillarious:D!!)

Seriously, you inspire me. I've never set foot in a membership gym before. It's so intimidating for this little o'lady.

From leslie on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 14:26:34

The ol' fanny sittin' granny hates the gym, but it is seriously in my back yard. My house is on a dead end with a cat walk to Butler Park and the Cottonwood Rec. Center is right there. I can walk there in 2 minutes. It is not so bad, I know most of the employees and trainers and it is not intimidating at all. It is a family rec center, lots of kids and old grannies like me! It is not one of those places where everyone is all slicked up in spandex and showing off their muscles, with their hair and make-up on. I go in the morning with my bed head hair sticking out like a punk rocker and my mascara under my eyes from the night before, and no one cares. Well maybe they do, but I don't care, oops! Looks like my give a damn got busted again. See what you started Marion???

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 14:31:44

Leslie, you're a hoot. I get the visual. How lucky to have the rec center so close. Lehi's rec center is about 5 miles in the middle of town. I guess I should check into it.

From leslie on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 14:35:56

Yes, I guess I am lucky, it is great for crosstraining!

From leslie on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 15:51:19

oh yes and Smooth you should check out the rec center, it is a great back up!! Especially in the winter! But, if winter doesn't stop you from running and you can strength train at home, then maybe it is one thing you really don't need to add to your list. Simple is best!!!

From marion on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 15:54:08

I run my regular hilly route. Makes it FUN!!! ;)

From kungfublonde on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 15:56:41

Hoorah! Go Leslie!

And we could totally be gym buddies. I'm pretty sure they think I'm homeless at my gym, the way I look at 4:50 am. (I'm afraid I never had a "give a damn" to bust!)

From leslie on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 16:00:33

Rachel, okay, you need to move up here and we can work out together, but you have to promise me you won't put on even a simgin of lip gloss, and wear mis-matched work out clothes, okay? :) Hey, are you you still banned from running??? Whats up?

From kungfublonde on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 16:26:58

My plan is to lift the ban on Friday and try a two mile run. I'm a rebel!!

And trust me, I really do look terrible when I go to the gym. I go there to work out, not to impress anyone. And it is obvious I feel that way by my clothes! I will try to remember to take a gym picture and post it.

When I'm a runner again, I'll come to Utah and we can go work out together. You will get a good laugh at my non-lip glossed face.

From Kelli on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 18:56:45

This ice scared me this morning, but we did not see much! I am getting nervous about that as well!

Way to go on that treadmill. 3 miles is my limit at a time, and sometimes only two! I break 3 miles up into two parts, before and after class. I hate those treadmills! SO BORING!!! Mess with your speed and incline, that will keep you hoping!

AND great job on the class. Pure hell workouts give you the best results, right?
