Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

Today was a PERFECT running day.  Harold and I picked up Maurine and went to Starbucks for hot chocolate and then met Britta, Scott, Kelli and Jon A in Lehi.  Odee was so excited to be running with all his new running friends that he kind of went crazy for a minute and plowed me over, I skinned my knee and elbow, but was fine after I got up and brushed myself off.  The weather was perfect. I absolutely loved this trail, flat and very quiet, we saw afew fellow runners but that was it.  Odee was in heaven running between Harold and I and Maurine.

Harold has been thinking about starting to run again, he did 2 marathon with me when we first met, but he has had knee surgery and has been a tile setter for years and his knees were trashed, but now he is estimating and off his knees and thinks he will start running again. I got on his bike and he ran for a 1/2 mile, he did great and felt good. This is a good plan, I will jump on his bike and we can slowly increase his mileage, it gives me a bit of a break too.

It was a great day!  My average pace was 13:17, we had to stop several times to give Odee drinks.

Sorry we didn't get pictures of the speedy youngsters today!  Next time, and thanks for including us, you guys are awesome!

Nicely done Leslie.

Looked like the perfect morning to be on the trail. Glad you all had so much fun. Can hardly wait to be out there with all of you again. That trail is very nice.

Hope that your skinned up knee and elbow are okay.

Have a great weekend.

Leslie, I'm glad you are ok. I was worried about you after that little dance you did with Odee. I'm impressed you continued on. I would have been a baby and called it good.

It was great to see you guys again. I hope Harold decides to run again, but then again, he is awesome on the bike.

Good run!

From tarzan on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 14:37:10

It was fun running with you this morning! You look skinny compared to me.

From leslie on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 15:02:38

Thanks Jon, I like the word "dance" rather than fall flat on my bum! It was a beautiful morning, it was fun to be a part of the group, even if we are pokey, it is still great to start out together and share the trail. I loved it!

From leslie on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 15:03:29

Thanks Maurine, but your nuts!

From tarzan on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 15:04:53

Duh! Is that news to you?

From jona on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 15:08:18

You girls are funny. Nuts, but funny. I'm just amazed how tough you are.

Great start of the day, great weather and great friends!

From leslie on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 15:11:16

Tough goofy old chicks! Thats us!! :)

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 16:20:47

Leslie, I feel totally responsible for your "dance!" I think my running backwards to chat was freaking Odee out or something! SORRY!!!! I hope you are okay.

Your pictures are cute, glad we were not around for any!!! It was not a good hair day. ;-)

Okay, I totally want to tag along with you and run a 50 miler. FOR REAL. I will run your pace and do what you say, promise. To say I have run a 50 miler would be cool!! Where is Red Mountain??

And how is Bryce Canyon half?? We need to chat about all of these races so I know which ones to try!

Have a good day and way to go HAROLD for getting in some miles! If it takes it nice and easy I am sure he will be joining you in no time.

From leslie on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 16:37:18

Kelli dear, you must do an ultra with us. Start with a 50K. Red Mountain is my very favorite so far. Check out the website. It is April 18. You will love it! Maurine and I and a friend from California are doing it together. The course is mostly downhill, the first half is trails and the last half is pavement. It ends up in Ivans,UT. It is on the other side of Snow Canyon, a beautiful course, the race director is awesome, he chatted with on the course several times. It was the first time they did the race last year, and they really tried to make it nice for everyone. I am hoping to do a 50 miler next year, but am not sure which one to do, I would like for it to be on trails, so I am not pounding the heck out of my feet. I may have to go out of state to find "just the right one". Sunmart in Texas is a possiblity, and the Helen Klein or American River also sounds appealing. I am just not sure. I want to see how I am feeling after Red Mountain and then commit to one. Maurine wants to attempt her first 50 too, it would be so fun if you joined us. Maurine and I are both doing our homework, trying to figure out exactly what to do. I get so darn excited thinking about it, I can't stand it. Okay, enough already, to look up Red Mountain 50K. I loved Bryce Canyon too, I wish it was a full marathon, it is a fast downhill course and very scenic. That will be a regular one for me as well.

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 16:42:00

Oh, dang, I meant to say 50k, not 50 miler!! That is still too ambitious for me. So, are you already signed up? I will totally do it. A race without my husband!!! YEAH.

Make sure to tell me when you sign up for these races, I seem to always miss them!

From leslie on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 16:42:19

Oh, and by the way, I am just fine, that darn Odee gets so excited and he is so strong, you had nothing to do with my dance, he is always running into me and Maurine too. He is a funny dog.

From leslie on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 16:47:37

50K's a great distance! We are already signed up! That would be SO great to have you join us!!!! Let me know what you think after you check out the website!

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 16:47:47

He is a BIG beautiful dog. And pretty darn well-behaved, too!

From leslie on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 16:50:13

I don't know about the well behaved part, but he is a great running partner!! It is especially nice to have him along when I run the trails by myself. He is my bodygaurd.

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 16:54:02

Yes, I run with my bodyguard as well. But he is a little more annoying!

I really want to do this race! Would you guys care if I tagged along? I am on the website right now. They cap it at 250, but I am assuming they are not there yet?

From leslie on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 17:00:05

Kelli, please sign up! We are renting a 3 bedroom condo, there is plenty of room for you! It will be a great time!! Sign up today!! 50k's are more layed back, and it is like running from one picnic table to another, tons of food, it is such a good time!

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 17:04:12

So, it is like a running buffet??? I can handle that!

So, who is coming?? Really, you would not care if I came???

From leslie on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 17:09:32

So far it is Harold and I, my friends Gary and Ernie from California and Maurine. You and Maurine could share a room that has twin beds. It would be perfect!!

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 17:15:08

I need to see of she snores first!!! BIG SMILE

I need to get permission from my husband (not really, but I ask just so he feels important). Maybe he would come and bring the kids to a race! They have always wanted to come and watch, but we both run so it never works. I can pick this as my race for him to WATCH with the kids, and then he can pick one for himself to run and I will watch!! I think he will go for that!

From leslie on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 18:15:14

Hey, you could always put shaving cream in her mouth....

I think you are on to something. A race for you and race for Scott, make it a family affair!!! I think you need to do a 50K before Scott so you can have one up on him!!

Hey, does your bodygaurd try and trip you too?

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 22:46:40

No, my bodyguard just runs the socks off of me and comes back every once in a while to make sure I am not lost. He is not much of a bodyguard and he will not stay on his leash!
