Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

This morning I drove to Holladay and did a flater course than normal and tried to put in a little more effort than normal. When I run alone I tend to be pretty pokie ( Kelli you started that one !:) I need to remember how good it feels to push my self just a  little harder.

3 miles Average pace 11:14  ( 10:41, 11:17, 11:40)

 7.5 ( CRAP!)

You're not pokey, Leslie! If I look half as good as you do in 10 years I will be the luckiest girl alive.

I like how you write how many pounds you are from your goal instead of your weight... can I copy you? Good running!!!

From tarzan on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 11:03:59

Good job pushing yourself today! Keep it up!

From leslie on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 11:09:41

Hi Lucia! I just checked out your blog, now I am going to have to follow yours. DC!!! How fun! Where did you live before and what do you do there? Sorry, I need a quick little catch up, do you mind? I would love to see you copy my idea on the weight loss. I think it is helping me a little to keep focused, these last few pounds are so very very stubborn! I bet the city is really exciting right now. Thanks for the note, and I will be watching your progress, do give us little insights to your life in DC!!!!!

From Lucia on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 11:17:24

Yes, DC is a lot of fun... Let me see - my life in a nutshell: born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, moved to the U.S. 10 years ago when I was 21 years old, graduated from SUU in Cedar City, got an internship working for Senator Bennett, then got a full time job in the Senate, then as it happens here got hired by a lobbyist group and I'm now an economist crunching numbers that have to do with transportation financing all over the country!

This year has been tough, I had a tibia stress fracture and then a bicycle accident and broke my jaw, I'm now three weeks away from getting off these braces and wires that keep my mouth shut so my jaw heals properly, and just started running again.

Pheww! That was a mouthfull - I miss Utah so much! Love reading about your runs! What do your grandkids think about their cool fit grandma? What a fabulous example for them to follow!

From marion on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 11:23:56

Those splits are AWESOME!!! You are a smokin' fast Mama!!!

From leslie on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 11:30:09

thanks Marion! I need to do that more often, I usually do the granny shuffle, so slow I won't even post them.

Lucia, thanks for the update, I am excited to hear more about the gorgous girl in DC. What an exciting life! I was sorry to hear about your accident, but it sounds like you are bouncing back like a trouper! Have a wonderful day!!! I don't understand why you would want to lose weight though....

From Kelli on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 14:30:55

Yes, Lucia is a tiny TALL thing already!!!

Leslie, CRAP is right for me ,too!! I gave in and weighed today and it was not good! I am 7.2 away from my goal, too. So, we were both at 5 and then we BOTH ate too much last weekend. No more of that!!!! We must control ourselves a little bit (not a lot) on the weekend. But, let's still pray for true weight Wednesday to be nicer to us!

GREAT RUN!

From Leslie on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 14:58:27

okay girl, tomorrow will be better! oh heck, the R.S. is having a Food Fest tonight. Should I be a diet snob and just eat off the veggie tray?? I think I will!!! Pray for me. hehehe

From lisa on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 17:05:14

Hey Leslie - miss you girl. We're going to have to do a run together soon. You are awesome to stick it out in the rain and the snow. We're way too wimpy.

From leslie on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 17:11:11

When you are up for a slow run, give me a call!

From Kelli on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 17:31:18

Leslie, it is our cooking group for RS tonight. We are having soup and BREAD!!! That will not help, but the key is to take a little taste of everything (yeah, right!)

From leslie on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 17:54:47

Kelli, I already blew it, I made macadamia and white chocolate chip cookies, and ate the dough AND the cookies! Let me know if your "little bit of everyting" works!!! I may not even go now. Snuggling on the couch with my hubby sounds more fun right now!

From leslie on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 21:58:05

kelli, I did exactly what you said, " a little bit of everything" Only problem was there was a ton of food. I finally ditched out before dessert, so I guess I get some kind of point for good behavior! How did you do? I think I need to run long and hard tomorrow!

From Smooth on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 22:54:15

You girls are so funny with your food talk. It makes me so hungry every time I come to this blog.

From leslie on Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 23:10:50

Smooth, do you think when we lose our 7 pounds we can change the topic? I think it is a "lifer" for me! Have fun with those babies!!!!!

From Kelli on Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 14:33:18

I did exactly what I said as well. BUT, like you said, there was a ton of food!! I only tried a couple of the soups, and then the BREAD!!!! Oh my heck, about 25 people came and there were only 7 soups---the rest was bread!!! Bread is my CRACK, I tell you!! I ate so much bread I was in heaven. I got home and informed Scott I would be running 6 miles in the morning (I do not do that on Wednesdays) just to burn off a 1/4th of the bread!!!!

And, it is TWW (that will be TRUE WEIGHT WEDNESDAY in code for us) and I have 6.5 pounds to go!!! DANG IT all to heck.

OH WELL, I enjoyed the food! (AND, while you were having cookies, I was having a HUGE pumpkin ice cream from Baskin Robbins. THIS is why I work out so much, I EAT TOO MUCH!!!)

From leslie on Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 15:00:04

Kelli, you are my soul sister! Okay you need to read my blog and see Marion's comments. We are going to enjoy the holidays, eat alittle and live alot!!! Happy Holidays!!!! A 3 pound loss over the holidays sounds resonable to me!!! I am going to cut myself some slack! I think you should too, you skinny beautiful girl!

From Kelli on Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 15:12:58

I LOVE FOOD, I always have. It is my curse in life. BUT, I enjoy it, and with as much as I comment about it, I rarely really regret it (only if I ate so much I got sick). I am happy that I can eat and enjoy the food! Last night when we were eating and chatting they all said I needed to teach them to exercise becasue they all wanted to be able to eat like me!! I took no offense. I am healthy and I run and I look okay and I eat pretty much whatever I want! How much better could life get (aside from more money???)

From leslie on Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 15:28:55

I LOVE your attitude!!!! I just need to exersize 2 hours a day like you!!!

From leslie on Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 15:31:24

oh yeah, more money please!!!
