Stay fit enough to run marathons all thru my life

Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

Did a super slow run today. The garmin pooped out on me and so did the ipod. I think the cold temps. are the culprit.  I just got my rebuilt garmin and am having problems.  Maybe I need to go buy the new fancy one that looks more like a watch.  Maybe Santa will bring me one if I am a good girl.

Note:  I had on my Yaktax today and slipped several times,  last year I wore them on trails and they are great, but you do get some slipage on the black ice, so beware.  I still like them alot, I would never attempt running on the streets without them, but they are not foolproof.  I may try and get Harold to put the screws on my shoes and see if I get better traction.

I love the idea about the duct tape, thanks who ever mentioned it, I think it may have been Teena. I love all the bloggers tips!  You guys are the best.

Maurine and I are planning on the Sat. 15 miler!  So never fear your sweepers are here!!!

6.5 from goal  ( this stinks to high heaven!) Maybe I need the duct tape for my mouth!!

Interesting that you slipped today. I was out running in the dark and the only time I had a problem was crossing the bridge over I-215. Maybe you were running a lot faster than me!

note to self - figure out where I hid my Yak-Trax

From Kelli on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 15:21:36

Oh, Leslie!!! You are so funny!!! You just need to come and move by me and we will workout for 2 hours every day, maybe three!!! Or duct tap, whatever suits your fancy!!

I had a smoothie for breakfast, a sandwich and an apple for lunch, and I am already hungry. I am not sure what to eat!! Whoppers, maybe?

Can not wait for Saturday!! I am going to try to go a little faster this week, but not much since we are adding 5! I think we need Marion to come with her hot chocolate again!!!

From Smooth on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 15:35:14

What did runners do before there were Garmin and ipod? Duct tape...now that's a cool tool. I'm starting to think like a man. I gotta hand it to you, Leslie, duct tape as a diet tool. LOL. :)

From krash man on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 15:59:21

Keep up the great work.

Tarzan whats a Yak-trax?

From leslie on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 16:19:34

Tarzan- I ran slower than you this morning, I promise, I want the boobie prize!

Kelli- I am moving, I would LOVE to be your next door neighbor and work out with you, I could knock on your door and say " Can I borrow a cup of whoppers"?

Smooth- You are so right! Without my garmin and ipod I felt naked and confused, I felt like I was lost in the desert, expect it was a freezing cold desert! Hey, are you joining everyone for the 15 miler? Tell Wendy and John to come!!!

Krashman- what have you done with Lori? Is she tied up in the basement??? We miss her soooo much! You guys should come join us in Lehi for the 15 miler. Lori could sweep with Maurine and I, its such a fun social event, all the cool people will be there, except for Marion, she is cool, but won't be there, unless we BEG her to make the drive for a wee little 6 miler. Come on Mar!!! Pretty pleeeeaaasee?

The "cup of Whoppers" made me laugh out loud

From leslie on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 16:30:18

Rachel, that Kelli girl is a silly one! She is always making me laugh! I hope you are feeling better, and I am going to be excited to see the pictures of the completed Kitchen. You did say you are doing most of the work, didn't you? You sound like a real Swiss Army Wife! A take charge kind of gal that can do anything!! Go Rachel!!!! I hope you are feeling better!

From Kelli on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 16:32:06

I laughed out loud, too! Best part about it, I am working on a lesson (thus my comments for the last 2.5 hours) for church this Sunday about good eating habits!!! Do you think whoppers count? Oh, wait, that was yesterday. Today i am eating tootsie rolls! I think I have had about 60, and I am feeling sick. I shoulda gone for the apple.

And, yes, Marion, what is this with a schedule?? All of the cool people will be there, and we know you want to be COOL with us!

From Kelli on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 16:40:16

Silly, me??? Na.

I, too, can not wait until Mike gets home so we can see the fruit of your labor (the kitchen). I swear, i can not even screw a lightbulb in with directions!

From leslie on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 16:41:47

Kelli, you are writting a lesson on healthy eating while you eat Tootsie rolls? How can you do that? You may get struck down by lightening. That is like teaching the Word of Wisdom over a beer!

From Smooth on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 16:43:37

I was one of the COOL people. But I won't be this weekend. Had to do my wifely duty for hubby's work at Zermatt. John and Wendy and their three daughters are running Snow Canyon. But I'd love to join you guys next time.

Why is it everytime I get on Leslie's blog, I get so hungry. I'm going to break into my son's stash of chocolates right now. My stash are all gone. O yeah, I must have burnt 100 calories laughing at the "cup of whopper". LOL. :)

From leslie on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 16:45:35

Okay Smooth, have fun in Midway and wish Wendy and John best of luck at St. George and we will all hook up next time!

From Kelli on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:00:23

Well, first of all, they are no fat, right? So it is kind of like eating a carrot!!

I need to NOT go to Costco and by the mammoth sized bag of tootsie rolls. They are 1 point for 10, so I just ate 6 points!!! Da.

From marion on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:11:50

I am glad that you didn't crash and burn outside today. I am going to post the screw thing onthe discussion board.

From laurie on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 18:54:12

I have been usually getting something done once a week, but it has been sooo hard! Throw in end of term and catching up, and sick kids waking you up 2-3 times a night I am beat!

I know it's no excuse but Im full of them. I really need to get running more, exercise is good for me, it is it really is!! I think I have put on a good handful of pounds but I am scared of the scale!

But at least my 9th graders think I'm mean and not so much of a pushover!

From leslie on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 20:45:27

Laurie, you are alive!!!!! Hey, your life is crazy right now, but we still would love to have you join us if you can ever break away from those adorable little ones!

I am glad you are not taking any crap from those 9th graders!

Don't get too stressed out kiddo, and let us know when you can join us! We miss you!!
