Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

Ran up  hill for a mile and then down, 3 miles total ,  my mile splits were 1-13:20  2- 11:20  3- 11:29

I need to get off 4 pounds to be at my pre TOU weight

5 more days to go!!!!!  I am going to go look for dipping chocolate for my gummi bears!!

I am starting back on regular doses of Vit. I today, the heels are trying to talk to me. Thanks  for the gentle reminder Maurine!

Okay, I went out with Maurine tonight and did the same 3 mile loop and these were our splits, 1-12:13 2- 10:41 3-10:19  Maurine finished about 1 min before me and then took Odee out for another mile.  Now I need to start tapering.  I am going to do 3 miles tomorrow, and then decide how to finish up the week.

Today was a PERFECT day of nutrition and running!!  I hope the scale cooperates tomorrow!!

Les,

I think you can get chocolate covered gummi bears at Harmon's!

Maybe I better buy them Friday so I won't eat them all before St. George. What are you taking for fuel? I am also taking shot blocs and maybe a couple of gu. Hey it is 10:30 and so far my nutrition is perfect!!!!

From montelepsy on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 12:48:58

What are Vit, shot blocs and TOU? You youngsters and your slang, sheesh.

From tarzan on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 13:15:12

Vit I - sort for Vitamin I - short for Ibuprofen

Shot blocks - made by several companies. They kind of are like gummy bears - but are basically chewy versions of GU.

TOU - Top of Utah marathon

You can call me a YOUNGSTER any time!!!! Thanks Maurine for enlightening Monte!!! We'll get you up on all the lingo!!!

Hey, it is noon and I am still on a perfect nutrition roll!!!!!!!!!!!

From montelepsy on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 14:02:10

Why do you call yourself tarzan? It doesn't rhyme with Maurine.

And thank you for the filling me in on the jargon.

From leslie on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 14:05:51

Monte, she runs in a leopard print loin cloth!!!

From tarzan on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 14:16:57

Monte -

I want to be Tarzan when I grow up - hence the nickname.

Thanks for serving our country in Iraq! My son-in-law just deployed to Afghanistan from Naples, Italy last Friday.

One father's day my kids got me the very thing.

I don't think I'll ever run in it though. At least not while I'm sober.

It's a custom for us to let guests sleep in our bed when they stay the night. So when my parents stayed over I put my leopard skin man-kini under the pillow. They never said anything. We never said anything to them either. So as far as pranks go I'm not sure if it worked. Rachel and I still laugh about it though.

From leslie on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 14:38:13

I bet your parents got a chuckle out that!!! Great Story! I think you should wear it on your next run around the base!!!

Ditto for me, thanks for your service!!!

From marion on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 17:52:02

Don't let them fool you Mike- they both run in leopard skin bikini's!

Great run Leslie. BAby those heels!

From leslie on Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 18:18:17

The secret is out, we do the Tarzan yell too, while sporting our loin cloths, and sorry I called you Monte, Mike.

From lisa on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 00:02:31

quite the comments today! You're awesome. You're going to do great. Good splits. where were you running?

From montelepsy on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 03:55:13

With my luck I'd sprain my ankle again. How would you explain crawling around base at night in an outfit that clearly violates General Order #1 to a sleep-deprived 18 year old MP?

From leslie on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 10:53:29

Mike, okay, maybe you are right....it was just a suggestion!!

Lisa, we ran up Banbary and over to Fort Union and down and across 27th.

I am anxious to hear about your new training program!!!
