Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

Only 5 more days until the TOU!  My running plan is to do a short easy run with the chicks on Tue, Wed and Thur.   This will be my long training run for ST. George, I have been off my feet for a couple of months, but I think I should be able to pull off doing St. George at somewhere between 4:50 to 5:15, that is what I am hoping for anyway.  My PR for St. George is 4:51, it would be nice to beat it, but I will be happy with a healthy finish.  If I feel okay after the TOU and the doctor says my feet are okay, I will sign up to do the OV50 with Maurine. My doctor's appt. is in an hour.

I am trying to stick to the WW core plan, I have been terrible thru my Paul ordeal and have not been eating well, so I am going to give it my all and focus on getting into good running shape thru my diet and running. It is fun to have so many of you with the same goals and share tips and keep each other motivated!

I think we should have a Bloggers Winter Getaway in St. George in Jan and do the Painters Half!!!  Just putting it out there!!!!

Have a great week!!!

Okay here is the report from the Podiatrist!

I had a nice talk with the Doc and told him the story, he said I am doing EVERYTHING right!  All the advice I got from bloggers and friends and the PT have helped.  Here is a list of things he said I should do ( I have been doing all of them) and my feet are feeling much better.

#1 never go barefoot or wear flip flops!  But, he looked at my "fit-flops" and said they are fine.

#2 wear your insoles in all your shoes ( I do!)

#3 if you are feeling pain, cut back on miles until they feel better ( I did !)

#4 run on trails when ever possible (I do!)

#5 ice heels ( I do!)

#6 stretch feet thru exersize ( I need to do a little more of this)

#7 he said the Z-coils are great for short slow runs and walks and around the house

#8 take Ibuprofen for inflamation ( I do)

#9 I have saved the best for last he said I can run the TOU and ST. George and the OV50!!!!  He said if I have pain, slow down or  drop out, but basically he said "GO GIRL!!!

Oh, also he said if they should get worse we can do cortizone shots,  but he doesn't think I will need to if I do all of the above.

I feel much better!  Thanks again everyone for all the PF tips!!  I really do feel I am managing it well and I am not going to let it be an excuse to stop running!!

I LOVE that idea about the getway! FUN! I am sure David would be all over it :) Good luck at the doctors. You have probably already gone and finshed by now :)

Good luck with the eating. I have noticed a HUGE difference in just a little over a week. I also haven't had a diet pepsi in almost a week. I need a shower, I'll check back in a bit to find out about the Doc appt :)

Leslie, your awesome. Really. 50 MILES? WOW!

I here via Marion' blog, and I third the motion on the getaway.

Marion, I had to read your comment three times, I was thinking you needed a shower in Diet Pepsi? :-))))))))

From Teena on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 15:27:02

Leslie, you are AMAZING!!! Glad things went well at the doc's. Can hardly wait to hear how TOU goes for you!!

From marion on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 15:34:08

Yeah Leslie! Fantastic news! If you try to find Birkenstocks, Famous Footwear has them. Who new? I already bought some online before I knew that :( Oh well! I love my new Birks. I got the thong kind. Yeah Yeah Yeah!!!

Jon- Doesn't everyone shower in Diet Pepsi? That's how I get my hair so shiny and soft! LOL

From jona on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 15:43:39

Leslie, what is the time frame between SGM and OV50? That sure is impressive. I just can't see how I would run 50 miles.

Marion, I thought it was some new way I hadn't heard of to get a DP fix.

From leslie on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 15:47:11

Jon, yeah, I do ultras granny style and LOVE it! Love being on the trail and taking it easy. This will be new territory for me though, I have never attempted a 50 miler, my friend Maurine (tarzan) will drag my sorry butt to the finish, I hope! And.... don't you use Diet Pepsi as in shower?? Maybe it's a girl thing!

Jon and Marion, yeah for Painters!! If you go, I will go! It would be a party for sure!!!

Marion, I have never worn Birkenstocks, I was too poor when they came out in the 80's, I always wanted a pair, do they have a good arch support?

From leslie on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 15:53:24

Jon,the OV50 is Oct. 25, Striders is putting it on, you should check out their website and give it some thought! Ultras have a different flavor for sure, mellow and friendly and usually very scenic. This one is around Huntsville and Pineview REs. BEAUTIFUL!

From marion on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 15:59:33

Birks are probably the #1 recommended shoe for Pf or fallen arches(me). The arch support is unreal. Go try some on the next time you pass a famous footwear. They ROCK :) Yes, they are pricy, but just like when I wore them all through the 80's they are worth every penny. (I was a California granola chick with my birks and 501's) I came to BYU and almost died. All these girls with their bangs to heaven and SO much makeup. I almost fell off of my chair in class laughing. They looked SO beautiful and yet so stupid. I thought I might never date if that is what the BYU guys liked. It turned out that a tall CA girl with long blond hair, no bangs or makeup could do alright for herself. ;D

From jona on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 16:06:43

Leslie, I don't care how you do it, I think I would be doing it from a hearse.

Oh, so that will be 2 marathons and 1 ultra in what a month? WowyWowWow

Your awesome!

From marion on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 16:27:19

I am going to do the Painters 1/2 or 5k. What other run are you guys going to do? I am thinking the Oct 25th Breast Cancer run.

From leslie on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 17:35:38

I am a CA girl too, but didn't hear about Birkenstocks until my Hawaii days, and at that time I was married to struggling student and barely making ends meet. My best friend Ann wore them all the time, to church too, and I would wear my flip flops from Walmart, and be so jealous. Now I am the one who is paying for the cheap shoes! I am going to go try some Birkies today!! I am moving up in the world!!!!

Jon, I hadn't thought about it but it will be 2 marathons and a 50 miler in 5 weeks. I do like to do them close and use early races as training runs. In the spring I did the Ogden Marathon and week later the Red Mountain 50K and it worked out beautifully. I think I can pull if off because I go really slow and don't push myself very hard. I would love to host a blogger's run! And Painters sounds like a fun time to me!

From marion on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 17:41:01

Famous Footwear does not have a huge selection, but if they don't have the style you would like, you can at least get the size you will need to order online. You may want to go online to see the different style first. Also, the fake ones at walmart have no support and feel nothing like the real birkies :) Have fun! I need another pair. I have given up on all of the flip flops. :)

From jona on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 17:58:46

You girls and your birk talk.

Painters is sounding better and better. Lets get more people! The more the better!

From leslie on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 20:30:59

What other runs? For this year, I have those 3 I mentioned above and then I think Painters would be fun in Jan. and then the Ogden Marathon in the Spring and then I want to try acouple of new ones. Someone said the Little Grand Canyon marathon is fun, I love to try new runs. I need some ideas myself. I ALWAYS do ST. George. I think the St. George series sounds interesting, it would be fun to do something in Feb. Any ideas? I am doing the Red Mountain 50k in April, that was one worth doing again! Oh, so many races.... so little time.... My poor husband, all our road trips are running related!

From marion on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 20:46:15

You have to do 2 races in the series to for sure get into the SGM. One of them is the painters half and 5k. There are 6 others. Jon left the link on one of his comments on my blog.

Did you get the birks?

From jona on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 20:53:27

Other races - I hear PF Chang's is ok down in Phoenix in January. There should be some So. Cal. races in Feb/Mar. I am shooting for Moab in March, have that start me off on a good training year!

From leslie on Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 23:08:53

I love running in St. George, I will have to check out the schedule. No, I didn't get to Famous Footwear, maybe tomorrow.

Jon, Moab is a good one, I think it would be fun to do one in Cal. too. We have a beach house at Capistrano Bay, I need to take advantage of a run down there. This is fun to start thinking of next years running schedule. I run better if I have specific races to work towards.

From jona on Tue, Sep 16, 2008 at 00:06:28

I ran Moab this last year, I liked it. I felt at the time that it was a good start to the year. THEN, I didn't draw for SGM, and lost all focus.

:-) With your endurance, you should run to that beach house. :-)
