Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

I did another treadmill run. 4 miles in 48 min. I did some intervals and some hills.  I do push myself more on the treadmill, I got a good workout.

They are avalanche bombing in Little Cottonwood, I think I will get called off work again, if that happens I may take Odee out for a hike.

I am stiff from my strength training. I love it!  It looks like I am down one pound.  That is pretty meager after watching the Biggest Loser on TV last night, but I'll take it! Baby steps.

****Went to the Rec Center tonight with Harold and did the eliptical machine for 30 min.  I added 2 more miles to my day!!!!

Good job on working out as usual. Get that dog exercising! We just got him in shape and you gotta get him ultra fit!

From Marion on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 11:27:36

Great treadmill workout! I hope you don't have to go in today. It is looking like a beautiful day :) I am going running when the kids get home. The highway will be clear and the sun will be out. I think I'll try my new red and pink garb!

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 15:01:41

I think an afternoon run sounds great today---wish we all lived closer so we could go together. When i was driving home from the gym I was thinking how nice it will be next year when Emma is in preschool. I can go to the gym in the morning, and then go for a run in the afternoon 3 times a week while she is gone. I am actually looking forward to that!

So, I have stayed in my points this week (although Monday I did eat 4 activity points---cupcake). I am exactly the same as Monday. I have not even shed an ounce. OH WELL, I will not dwell on it and I will keep going. Maybe all of the diet coke is making me retain water?? I should follow your example and stop it for a bit.

GREAT JOB on the working out and the POUND down!!! YEAH!

From Marion on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 15:10:38

I had 2 diet cokes last night and finally dropped some! I don't think it is bad for me at this point. Eating the other crap is worse right now. I dunno- I just have to quit finding candy and EATinG IT! I rocked last night. I Had brown rice sushi and veggies with that 0 point ranch dip. YUMMY! I am forsure making that dip for the car ride to st george with tons of cut up veggies. Or is that bad pre-race food?

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 15:24:02

That dip does sound very good. I am going to add all of the ingredients to my shopping list for next week! Nothing is bad pre-race food if you are not going to RACE, right??? Then we can eat whatever we want!

From leslie on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 15:37:34

Girls, I caved in this morning and 2 cans of Coke Zero, dang that stuff is good. Oh, well, I don't really care that much. Yes, it is so annoying that good nutrition doesn't pay off quicker, but we will get there. I just went to Sweet Tomatoes with my girls and Paul and had a salad with the low cal dressing and none of the other crap they have there.

As far as pre-race food goes, one time I ate M&M's on the way down to St. George for the marathon, thinking what the heck, I am going to be burning so many calories, I deserve this treat, and then I got the "you know what" and had about 10 little deposits along the way. It was horrible, so I am alittle more careful now. Just a delightful story to make your day! Nice visual??

From Marion on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 15:39:49

Oh yeah! I just can't forget my jolly ranchers. They are my long run foods.

I am wearing my pink stuff and I look like a MORON! I am going to blind someone with this color. I am not sure I can pull off hot pink pants! People may crash into me because they are LAUGHING so hard and the hot pink FAT jogger!

From leslie on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 15:57:01

Did you actually go out and buy pink pants? I went today looking for pink gloves and hats but couldn't find any cheapies. I DO have a pink and red biking shirt I am going to wear. I will probably stick with my black pants. If I had long hair I would wear one of those big pink bows that are twice the size of your head, but oh well, maybe a pink boa????

From tarzan on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 16:20:51

Marion - just don't kick your fiber up too high on the trip down. You don't want to spend the entire race finding VPB's.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 16:39:41

PINK BOAS! That is what we need! We can be choking down feathers the entire time we run.

I think I may get knee socks and just wear them over my other socks! They have lots of red and pink right now at Target for V-day!!! Then, I will just wear shorts or capris (black is all I own, but I am due for another pair). On the shirt---still working on it. Not sure if I will want long or short sleeves???

From leslie on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 16:59:11

Kelli, you REALLY need a boa!!!!! Do you think the socks would mess up our feet? I saw a lot of cheap pink knee socks, but then I thought....HELLO BLISTERS!!! I am not sure it is worth it, we need accessories!!

From Marion on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 17:19:43

We can shop at Target while our men snore in harmony :)

What about a boa stlye hair ribbon? Sasha is going to DIE and ban us from the blog when he see's us :)

From tarzan on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 17:27:28

I'll pay you $10 if you can get Sasha to wear all hot pink to race (except for his racing singlet)

From Marion on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 17:32:03

Ok- I'll ask him to :)

From leslie on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 17:39:39

Maurine, check out the website with the Nevada ultras!!! There is one January, it would be cheaper than Texas. It is on one of the comments above.

From tarzan on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 17:50:27

I looked at it Leslie. If you really want to do 50 miles on the road - why don't we just run the OV 50 Miler and have it even closer?

From leslie on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 17:55:53

just thinking outloud Maurine, I was thinking it may not have as much of an elevation gain as Ogden. Texas is still an option, so is Ogden, who knows??

From tarzan on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 18:11:47

Yeah - there are probably some other 50 milers around we could look at. Its amazing how many keep cropping up.

www.calicoracing.com

Has a few ultra races around the Vegas area. Best of luck!!

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 18:50:35

I was thinking that I would wear my regular socks underneath the knee highs, what do you think?

I bet we could find Boas at a party store?!?

From leslie on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 19:38:55

Kelli, I don't know about that, I suppose you could try it, you could always take them off,but you would lose acouple of minutes.

I will check on Boas at Zuchers! ARe we crazy??? Hey Pink Sunglasses?? I think I need to settle down....

I am starving, gotta fix me up my salmon and sweet patato. Dang I am good!
