Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

Got up early this morning and did my whole run before the sun came up. It was great, no traffic.  I took Odee around the park for a mile and then ran up to Wasatch Blvd and back. The street lights and the snow made it just light enough that I could see with out tripping. Alot of people still had their Christmas lights on, it was a real nice quiet run in the snow.

Okay, who is all in on the contest Marion suggested?  Run 6 days a week all year and then we'll have a party!   A minimum of 2 miles a day unless it is a scheduled taper for a run.  I love it.

I actually start my Biggest Loser Contest Monday. I am excited to get into better runnning shape.

Great job getting out early and beating me to the punch! You are not letting winter conquer you at all!

From Teena on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 14:40:57

Wow Leslie!! You are hardcore!! I struggled getting my behind out of bed at 6:30 and then I was wimpy and ran at the gym!! :)

Great run!!

From Marion on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 16:57:54

Great run Leslie! I will post our contest on my blog too. You are so brave to go out in the snow. We got pounded (mini pound-about 6-8") I was not brave enough to venture out with my brain a stuffed and my legs all wimpy :)

Have a grand ol' day! I think I want to hop in the car and go see Mama Mia in Vegas.

From leslie on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 20:04:43

Can you swing by and pick me up? I loved the movie, I can't imagine the play being better, how can they make the ocean so blue and how could anyone do better than Meryl? It sounds so warm and tropical right now.

From tarzan on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 20:07:41

I actually loved the play more than the movie and saw it twice in Salt Lake. My sister and I are thinking of heading to Vegas in the spring to see Mamma Mia and the Donny and Marie Show.

From leslie on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 20:23:07

Okay, I just looked at Benns diet on his blog and his first day looked so tiny, I eat twice that amount. Am I a pig or what??? I don't think I could keep that up for long.

From leslie on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 20:25:01

So how is your sister anyway?

From Kelli on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 21:34:00

I want in, can we just not count this week for me, and I will start on Monday?? I think it should be the first week that is all in January, January did not start until Thursday this week, so it should not count at all!

What a crappy week for me, and the eating went down the drain pretty much, too! I have had ice cream every day in January so far! But, man could live on ice cream alone!!! I could prove that if anyone needs me to.

From Marion on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 21:39:48

Funerals don't count either :) You are in! I am going to eat 100% better starting tomorrow, or course! I have been pretty good today :)

From Kelli on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 21:49:13

Okay, so funerals and then days when your husband turns off the alarm without waking you up (note to self: make him sleep on the couch instead of me).

STRESS EATING is a big problem with me! We have ababy blessing in the morning, too, so that is going to mess up fasting tomorrow with tons of way too calories laden food made by my mother in law. I can not catch a break this week!

Monday will be the start of a my New Year!!!!

From leslie on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 23:10:32

Kelli, give yourself a break, what a tough week! Monday is the day! Monday will start the New Year and we will kick some serious butt!!

I just saw Run Fat Boy Run and it was really cute!!!

From Becca on Sat, Jan 03, 2009 at 23:53:06

I'll need to go out and run now if I'm going to join in the contest. My goal was 5x a week, but if I'm going to do 5, how much harder really would it be to do 6?

Oh, but that would mean I'd need to do more laundry...I'm not so sure I could handle that! I'm still undecided!

From Smooth on Sun, Jan 04, 2009 at 00:40:02

AWESOME Leslie!! You got out there bright and early. Love your description of a peaceful winter run. I love my mattress too much. Another contest? I'm gonna have to find another blog...these contests are killing me.

From tarzan on Sun, Jan 04, 2009 at 09:31:04

Becca, I just recycle the same old running clothes for several days. Once you start running they get smelly anyway.

From lesllie on Sun, Jan 04, 2009 at 11:06:27

me too Muarine, I only wash them after several times out, if I run with friends I put on fresh ones. I don't want to gross anyone out.

From tarzan on Sun, Jan 04, 2009 at 11:25:32

Feel free to gross me out when you run with me. After all - we do freshen the air together :).

From Marion on Sun, Jan 04, 2009 at 14:22:07

I'm a recylcler too with the clothes. I just take them off and hang them on hooks in my closet and wash them on wed and sat. Maybe that is why no one will run with me ???? I suppose it is kinda gross, but I don;t have many running clothes and if they get tossed in the laundry, I'd never see them again and it would be an excuse to not run :) I stink to make sure I run... no matter waht!

From Kelli on Sun, Jan 04, 2009 at 17:42:08

OH GROSS!!!! I just do a LOT of laundry, at least every other day! BUT Scott and I both work out twice a day (one run outside, then to the gym) on many days, so we get two stinky outfits a day. With that many stinky outfits plus 5 kids, it is not hard to get 2 full loads in every other day!!!

In all honesty, I sweat way too much!! And I STINK. Some people do not stink that much when they sweat, but I am not one of them!!! You guys must sweat perfume or something.

From tarzan on Sun, Jan 04, 2009 at 17:44:52

LOL - no perfume smell. Sometimes I gross me out. Let me put it this way - my workout clothes are the favorite thing for my dog to roll in because they smell so much. If I go to a gym, I do put on clean clothes, but for outside runs (particularly in the winter when I only have two pairs of tights) - I just reuse them after they dry.

From Kelli on Sun, Jan 04, 2009 at 17:47:09

Okay, I have reused my tights. There is not much sweat happening when it is 4 degrees outside!!!

From leslie on Sun, Jan 04, 2009 at 18:16:39

I don't sweat at all, I go to the gym and everyone is sweating but me. I always wished I would sweat, maybe I would sweat off some weight, but I don't. The only advantage is I do less laundry, that is a good plus I guess.
