Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

This is hardly worth mentioning, but I did one mile on the indoor track at the gym, it is so windy and cold outside. I put off going so late, that was all I had time for.  I really needed a good workout to make up for all the holiday treats I am enjoying, but oh, well, Happy Holidays!

I am pooping out on the run tomorrow in Lehi, I think it is going to be real windy and stormy. Good luck to you die hards that make it, I will be anxious to get your report. Drive safe too!

At least you got out and did something! Every little bit counts.

From leslie on Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 11:53:48

Thanks buddy, I feel like such a gooey chubba loser today, why do we let the scale effect our mood so??

From tarzan on Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 12:02:52

Because media and our experiences tell us women are judged by how skinny they are.....

From Smooth on Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 14:11:26

Hey Leslie, you got out there and made the best attempt. That oughta count for something!!! There will be good workout days ahead.

Not sure if this helps. But I'm going to share with you something about my friend (relative thru marriage) whose funeral I will be attending.

When Susan first got sick, before she knew it was cancer, she had this strange rash and extreme muscle fatigue. She couldn't even raise her hands to brush her teeth or comb her hair. Long story short, during the two and a half years while struggling with cancer, her daily wish (and nightly dream) was to be able to wake up and get out of bed by herself. With numerous surgeries, chemo, her weight dropped down to 70 lbs. She was a skeleton of her former vivacious self. To those who loved and knew her, it didn't matter what/how she looked, she was BEAUTIFUL. I'm crying buckets of tears just thinking about this valiant girl.

Leslie, you know who you are, don't let the scale, the media, those who don't know you judge you. You are a beautiful, wonderful, special daughter of God. And that's the honest truth.

Thanks Smooth, I know it is so silly to put so much into the scale reading. I am lucky to have good health and a strong body. I need to more grateful for all that I have. I look at Paul and Julie and people like your friend who just passed away and realize how silly it is to have those thoughts at all. Thanks for the reminder, and I am going to be grateful for good health!

From Kelli on Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 18:31:15

We all have those thoughts sometimes (I am the queen of them, for sure). But I totally agree with what Smooth is saying! I have been telling myself every day when I get up that I am healthy and happy and that it will be a good day! I quit waiting to be a certain size, I went shopping, and i just try to be cute and happy every day! AND it is working for me, really!!! Yes, I am going to WW meetings and trying to still lose the last few pounds, but it is no longer my gauge for happy I will be. And, the main thing I keep telling myself right now is that it is CHRISTMAS!!! There will be good food and fun, and life is too short to not enjoy some of it---or a lot of it!!!

You are an amazingly wonderful and beautiful woman! Look at what you do every day! I am not being "mean" here I hope by mentioning AGE, but many women your age do nothing!!! In fact, most do nothing!!! I hope I can still run when I get a little bit older (cause you are not that much older, right???) and that I can do half of what you do every week!!

We need to BAG the run and have a Christmas Party, for real!

And, just so you know, I am not die hard. This weather is not running weather! I, too, hit the treadmill today and did a whoppin' 2 miles!!! Not enough to make up for all of the chocolate dipped oreos I have eaten, but that is life, and the OREOS were GOOD and WORTH IT!

From leslie on Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 18:45:10

Kelli, thanks for the note! Whenever you write to me I feel better. I will not let the scale determine my happiness either! I hope you all cancel, and if you run, run close to home so you are not driving and you can get home quick for some hot chocolate if it gets too nasty. It will be a treadmill day for me tomorrow :( Oh, well.

Thanks again for the note, I wish we could have a Christmas Party, we might have to wait until we get to St. George and then we will really party!!!!

From Kelli on Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 18:46:22

Yeah, it is a little late to try to plan a party! St George will be fun, though! We still have that!

We did cancel, so who knows where I will run tomorrow! You be safe and have fun and ENJOY life!

Good, I am glad!!

From Kelli on Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 19:57:39

Have a great run tomorrow you wonderful person!!! Enjoy one more week of Christmas and New Years, and then we will all get back to being good little eaters 80% of the time (that is all it takes!)
