Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

Ardath and I went on a hike with Odee on the Shoreline trail.  It was nice and cool, it was perfect until a lady freaked out and screamed like a lunatic because Odee came running up to her dog without a leash, I am such a naughty pet owner.

The heels are feeling pretty good.

He he he! Funny. I was forever yelling "he's friendly, he's friendly" when my golden retriever would run up to say "hi" to the unsuspecting passerby.

I'm glad your heels are feeling good today. Rub rub rub ;) ice ice ice! I have been doing the PF stretches in solidarity!

From Laurie on Tue, Aug 12, 2008 at 11:49:01

You naughty girl!! How are you doing with your diet coke? I've been bad, 1-2 cans a day......or I guess you could say I'm naughty too!

From marion on Tue, Aug 12, 2008 at 11:53:00

Diet PEPSI is the nectar of the GODS! (along with chocolate cake) Diet PEPSI FOREVER!!!!

(I may put myself on time out until I can behave, naughty blogger, naughty)

From Kim on Tue, Aug 12, 2008 at 11:57:48

Thanks for making me laugh! Odee just wanted to say hi! I'll bet Odee freaked out after she did! What a funny scene to think about!

From leslie on Tue, Aug 12, 2008 at 12:07:42

Yeah, it was pretty funny Kim, as she walked by I gave her a sassy little smug smile and she screamed " IT'S NOT FUNNY!!!!" Some people.....

Hey, I made it thru the whole day without Diet Coke, and yes Marion it is the nectar of the Gods and the breakfast of Champions, but I was drinking it by the bucket loads, I have a hard time with the whole moderation thing.

Laurie, I think Maurine and I are running the Pipeline Thur. night, I will let you know what time after I check with the working gal. It would be fun to have you along, I may be miles behind whinning over my painful heels, while you and Maurine zip on by.

Hello Leslie, thank you for your nice comment on my "new" blog. It has been so nice speaking with people on here and getting to know fellow runners who can more fully comprehend this crazy running world. So, not that I am trying to solicit or harass you with a product, but after reading about your goals to get off of Diet coke, I feel I need to talk to you. I too am a major diet coke addict. I actually used to have about 3-4 a day, no kidding. There was one day that I literally added up the ounces and I had drank 74 in ONE DAY!!! However, with my overall goal to get healthier, I have found a product that has literally gotten me off of diet coke. I do not even have cravings anymore and I also got around the traditional head aches that come from caffiene withdrawals. Have you heard about the Green Tea HP? I first found it from a friend but then noticed kiosks in the mall and have now actually signed up with the company as a distributor. The product comes in a powdered pixi (similar to that of Crystal light) that you just add to a bottle of water and shake up. They have 7 flavors to choose from. If you want to read more about it, you can go to www.mygrenx.com/runhard. Aside from helping me get off of diet coke, you will not believe the amount of energy it gives you on a daily basis and it also contributes to just your overall well health etc. Okay, kill me now for coming on so strong, but I just couldn't help myself from telling you about this. I in no way want to come across as that pesty sales woman who will bother you about this. So, if you are interested, check it out, if not, that is fine too!!! I look forward to keeping in touch over the blog and wish you the best of luck with all of your training. Look at that list of Marathon finishes, IMPRESSIVE!! Way to go!! You inspire me~

What Leslie forgets to mention is that Odee is the size of a small bear - so he could be pretty intimidating.

From marion on Tue, Aug 12, 2008 at 17:30:58

I like odee already! :) Anything smaller is not a REAL dog ;D

From leslie on Tue, Aug 12, 2008 at 21:48:14

I am all about big dogs too! My dog eats chiwahwahs ( Now how is that for spelling????) for a snack!

Kelli, thanks for the tip, I will check out the website, I have been trying different ice teas, and so far only one has hit my hot button. I have never been a tea drinker, but I know it is a lot healthier than Diet Coke. Thanks and keep blogging, you bring a lot of personality to the Blog!!!!

Hi Leslie!

I wanted to check in with you and see how your foot is feeling. I have been battling PF for over a year. It can be very frustrating. There are three things that I do regularly, my PF has not disappeared, but I have not yet had to stop running because of it:

1) wear birkenstocks whenever possible (don't wear your running shoes thinking they help, they really don't), I have also heard good things about Noat shoes (and some podiatrists recommend them for PF).

2) wear a soft night split (http://www.northcoastfootcare.com/store/thermoskin-plantar-fxt-soft-night-splint-p-77.html)

3) if you sit a lot during the day, get up and walk around to keep your foot "warmed up" and keep the fascia from shortening -- alternatively, you can prop your foot against something to keep it flexed (I will sometimes lengthen my leg against the wall under my desk or prop my foot against a pile of books -- the idea is to keep your foot flexed -- like the split does)

Icing is always good -- and I will sometimes roll on a tennis ball (it really really hurts). Stretching your calves and doing leg lifts to strengthen your achilles will also sometimes give you some relief. Good luck Leslie, let me know if any of this helps!!

______________

On another note, I love big dogs - I have two, well, one is medium (50 lbs) and one is larger (90 lbs). I was at a dog park once and I was talking to a guy with two great danes. He looked at my Rhodesian Ridgeback (90 lbs) and said, "those are great dogs, if you like small dogs that is" - it is all relative!

Thank you Bonnie, I think I am on the track with most of things you mentioned, however I have not tried the device you sleep in, but I may have to consider it. I feel like I am on my way to managing it well. I am glad to hear it hasn't stopped you from running. I have heard of so many people who say they can't run because they have PF. So I am trying to find the right balance of taking care of the problem, and not giving up the running. I really think staying on trails is a big part of it for me. I really appreciate the tips! It was fun checking out your blog, you are one fast gal! I will keep you posted on how this goes and thanks again. This blog is a great place to meet people and learn! I agree big dogs rule! Mine is about 90 pounds, he is half Golden Retriever and half Great Pyranes. He looks like a huge retriever, he's a pretty friendly dude, but when he comes charging up to meet you it can be a little intimidating I guess.
