Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

Hiked to Sunset Peak again with Harold, maybe I have it out of my system now.  Beautiful morning.

Tonight we are going to dinner and to the Canyons for a free concert with Kim and John.

Sounds magical! I really need to do that one with you, I'm jealous of your many hikes. I get scared going with just me and my kids, because if something happened to me the bears would get the kids :)

Sounds like a good day. Not quite the mileage you were planning though - right? You got some good mileage in this week.

Leslie...I just found out my son needs his tonsils out :( It's going to put me at home with the kids ALL week (he gets it done Th - M, my sister has plans for us and Tu is BBK - So, I will have to hit it with you the week of the 16th. Let's plan a good one!

Maurine, that was not my plan, but Harold suggested the hike and I figured we needed some "us" time. I am losing my running mojo that is for sure, I look for any excuse to hike and not run, but it is all good.

Rachel, good luck with your little one, I hope it goes smoothly. You can join us any time!

I think it is all good, as long as you found something you LOVE, stick with it!!! Exercise is just that, it does not have to be running!!! After St George this year is out of the way, i am going to seriously reevaluate this whole running thing myself! I will still run, just not sure I want to put the time and effort into it anymore.

Kelli, I am struggling with the running, not ready to give it up, but it is taking a back seat right now. I have always said I would run SGM until I am an old old woman, I may go back to that being my one and only marathon a year and just enjoy my back seat pass on the route.

So how are you doing after your week off? Any relief from the pf? I hope your week off has been helpful. I missed not reading your daily entries. Whatever we decide is okay. I have to keep telling myself that!!!

From Kelli on Sun, Aug 02, 2009 at 17:12:58 from 71.219.100.174

I kind of feel the same way. I like the St George marathon, so maybe I will do that every year and then just relax the rest of the year!!! Who knows....

The PF is feeling better but not gone. After yesterdays run it hurt BAD for a few hours, but after taking the medicine and icing and stretching it mellowed out. I want it gone, but I have got to get training for this marathon! I can not afford time off right now. Just one week off almost killed me. Yesterdays run was the worst run of my life, seriously! I definitely bit off more than I could chew, BUT it was bad from the start so even a shorter run would have been as disastrous I am sure!

Leslie,

I am glad to hear that you are enjoying your hikes. You have to keep the running going at least for Julie and SGM.

I often wonder how long I could keep this hobby up before injuries or old age catch up on me.

I think we ENJOY running most of the time. It is the training, the stress of performing in a race, the injury/set back that get us down.

Stay healthy so you can enjoy doing the exercise/fitness activities for many many more years to come.
