Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

5 miles on the tread mill, I focused on doing the first 3 as tempo miles.  3 miles   in 33:00 min and then I was up and down doing intervals.  I did one mile on the eliptical for a warm up.

Looks like  a few of us are going to meet for a group run on the Porter Rockwell trail. The easiest place to meet is  the Albertsons parking lot on 12300S. and 13th East, that way those of you from Utah County can just get off the freeway at 12300 S. and drive straight east until you get to 1300E.  Alberstons is on the right  side the of the street. The trail head is on  13th just south of 12300S.  We were thinking of meeting at 7:45, but if anyone needs to come earlier or later, we will  see you on the trail where ever.  EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

Okay, the scale is holding at 1.5 loss and weigh in for the contest is tomorrow,I would love to get another .5 off  by morning.  Then my game plan is to try and lose one pound a week for the next 10 weeks of the contest, it sounds easy, but I have struggled with these last 10 pounds for years, it will be a miracle if I actually do it!

For those of you following my Paul, the test showed he has gall stones , thank goodness it is not life threatening, but  still I hate to see him going thru more pain.

Maurine just emailed me, there are several trails that connect, so there are lots of possibilites for everyone.

GREAT JOB on the treadmill and elliptical today.

I like your weigh loss game plan. Do you have one or two things to focus on? For example, drink x amount of water every day this week. Or, don't eat anything unless it's put on a plate. Or, no eating after you brush your teeth at 8 pm. The last few pounds are always the toughest. BUT YOU CAN TOTALLY DOOO EEET!!!

Okay, I'm excited about running on the Porter trail. I hope it's well marked because I am REEEAAALY directionally challenged. I might have to come earlier. I forgot my son has violin lesson. But if I can get a ride with Wendy, and get Larry to pick me up after his skiing. I'll figure it out before Sat.

I will continue to pray for Paul and Julie. It must be so frustrating to not able to communicate where and what hurts.

Thanks Les, you're the BEST!

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 13:36:04

Dang, wish we could come. On another Saturday, I guess.

I already blogged all of my thoughts on Paul in yesterdays post. What do you think???

From leslie on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 14:25:30

Smooth, I am so glad you will join us. Should we say 7:30 instead? If you need to go earlier, maybe Maurine or I could come early and show you the way. I am up for an earlier run. Let us know.

I am really trying to focus on water and healthy choices and portion control.

Kelli, sorry you won't make it, next week is a possiblity, it is a nice trail. I wish Paul would just get the gall bladder out, because, how is Julie to know the level of pain, it would just be easier to get it over with all together, I need to talk to her more today, she was so tired last night, I couldn't get all the details.

The party is almost here!!! I am not dieting at the party, it is going to be my "free meal"!!!!

From Kell on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 18:35:57

Now I want to come. I may have to negotiate with Scott and Jose (or just leave the???) But we are running at 9 and that sounds so much better!!!

From leslie on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 18:46:00

Let the boys go run and you can come play with us!!!!! We talk about cool things like food and crazy people in our wards and way fun stuff! Pretty please!!! It is a nice trail too, Maurine is going to see if she can find the end of the trail tonight, we have only done it twice and haven't found it yet.

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 19:46:03

K, Leslie I invited JonA and Teena. Jon is interested. Haven't heard back from Teena.

Here's my scheduling problem. My son has violin lesson at 11:45 am in Orem. I'll have to either be back to Lehi by 11 or find a ride myself so he can have the car. I need to run 20 which takes me anywhere between 3.5 to 4 hours.

Has Maurine found out more info on the trail. Jon wants to know if it's an out and back and if it's paved, dirt or whatever. I'm wondering about the same thing. Thanks.

Hope there's good news on Paul today.

Oh, Wendy can't come. Here's my other option: my husband can drop me off on his way to Deer Valley. He plans to leave after he gets home from the Temple around 8:00ish. Then I can wait for him to finish skiing to take me home at 2 pm. Hmmm.

From rinny on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 20:45:12

hey leslie, ok so ALOHA...and when were you living in Laie...I went to byu hawaii in the 90s....love hawaii miss it so much...

anyway i am not sure I am up and ready for a group run, because I think...know y'all would lap me several times, and the only thing y'all would see is my booty waddling a long and y'all would be a big blurr to me as you passed me...

though some alone time would be nice, and more exercise would be great...

congrats on the weight loss and good luck with that...

sorry is this comment too long? will I be kicked off for too long comments? I could post a bunch of little replies...:) I think I am going to go watch AI and actually hop on the treadmill...

From rinny on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 20:45:35

oh yeah sorry to hear about Paul's gall stones those are so not fun.

From leslie on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 20:47:38

The trail is paved, it reminds me of the JRP trail. Maurine is running it tonight to see how far it goes. According to the map it is 3 1/2 miles one way, but Maurine and I are sure it is quite a bit longer, seems to me we went out and back and did over 9 and we never did go to the end, it looks like it has been extended, hopefully Maurine can tell us more tonight or tomorrow.

From leslie on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 20:55:53

Smooth, I hope you can get the car situation worked out. I wish I lived closer. Keep us posted on your arrangements so we can try and work around it.

Rinny, I was in the dorms for awhile, and then TVA and then we became dorm parents in Hale 3. I love Laie. My best friend in the world still lives there, did you ever take art classes from Brother Alisa? His wife Ann is my good friend. I am also good friends with Ruth and Isi Kongaika, we both lived in Tonga at the same time and were neighbors. It will be fun to run with you one of these days and talk about Hawaii.

Your post was NOT too long, I loved it, and I think you should run with us and we will push your little booty right along!!! Hey, no pressure here!

From tarzan on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 21:43:29

Info on the trail - it is all paved. Out and back - like the Jordan River Parkway. However, the Draper Canal Trail runs somewhat parallel to the Porter Rockwell Trail and would give you the ability to make some loops or add other sections. In addition, if you run about 5 blocks on the 12300 South, you can actually connect to the trail that runs along the Trax trains to Sandy and back - but that section has more road crossings.

Smooth - if you started from Bangerter Highway, you would have less driving time involved. Let us know if that would help your schedule.

From rinny on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 22:20:48

not feeling any pressure....would love some running buddies, however just not up to speed, YET...look forward to talking stories!

From lelsei on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 23:08:27

Maurine, did you go to the very end? Was it on Bangerter Highway? Was there a parking lot there? How many miles? Was there snow on the ground? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for being a good little scout!! Did you end up running in the dark some?

From tarzan on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 09:30:56

Les:

Yes

No

No - but there is a subdivision right below the Bangerter overpass that has a minute little park where we could park and get on either trail in a minute or less.

2 more miles

A little bit - where the wind on Point of the Mountain blew some back

You are welcome

No - finished up watching sunset

From leslie on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 11:07:20

Wow! Thanks Maurine. So do you know how many miles it is from Albertsons to the end? I am assuming you parked at the bridge. Oh, I need to go read your blog maybe it is there.
