Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

7.60

This is a quick post, I have an appt due in a few minutes and am still in my stinky running clothes. I did 7.60 miles on the BST, from Draper to Corner Canyon and up Corner Canyon about a mile. Nice and easy, alot of walking, a nice start for the week. I ran into a massage client on the trail, I always love it when I see friends out on my morning run.

Wow, great job on getting out today:) I love to see your positive attitude, and if it were me that gained two pounds I would have rationalized them away. I'm just bloated, I recently drank too much that I haven't voided yet, or I am carrying waste in my intestines that needs to go away too. So, if any of these excuses work feel free to borrow them, because I do share:) I think I am going to hide the scale this week and just see what happens at the end of the week.

Thanks Laurie for letting me borrow your excuses!! I have got a few of mine own too!!! Just watch, I am going to get rid of those two pesky pounds and more this week!!!

From Laurie on Mon, Jul 07, 2008 at 13:10:04

Do you hear this alot? "You're building muscle and that weighs more than fat.....or you have to gain a little muscle weight before you lose the fat....." People willing give you excuses all the time.

From marion on Mon, Jul 07, 2008 at 18:17:15

You ROCK leslie. The truth about weight is that after all we can do, we can't control that darn scale. We can control what goes in the hole and how much we move. The rest is up to mother nature. (and she's a little unpredictable and moody) Sorry, Leader Marion, just pops out, kind of like when you throw up a little in your mouth. Sorry, Gross Marion poped out. There are so many sides to me, I don't know what to do with them ALL!

Runner Marion says you are the BOMB and I think you are the coolest and whoever was weighing you had their foot on the scale! Hang in there! Your're the BEST!!!

Leader Marion and Runner Marion, I LOVE your comments! You are very kind to blame Mother Nature, but it was really the cookies, hot dogs, pasta salad, brownies etc. etc. etc...... I need to wire my jaws shut! I AM going to have a good ww week this week! I think I can, I think I can!

From tarzan on Mon, Jul 07, 2008 at 23:14:47

I can sock you in the face and break your jaw if you would like me to (what are friends for)....

Here's a motivator - every pound you can lose before October is one less pound you won't have to carry for 50 miles.

Maybe we should start putting aside $1 for every mile we run and then splurge after our successful 50 miler. What do you think?

From Laurie on Mon, Jul 07, 2008 at 23:18:13

Hey, I'll join in on that! I've done that before and got some new shoes after a race:) Cute shoes, not running shoes..........

From marion on Tue, Jul 08, 2008 at 00:12:38

Hey every pound you lose is 2 seconds off you time, I hear. Money and faster! I am IN! Do they make cute shoes for big ugly running feet? I swear my feet are just going to keep getting bigger and uglier ALL THE TIME!!! (don't tell anyone I swore :)

From Laurie on Tue, Jul 08, 2008 at 00:41:18

Let's see, between 5k's I lost 10lbs I think and I improved 3 minutes (training is still important) and yes they make cute big shoes. I'm 5'4" with size 10feet and they are wide.......but cute is doable and nail polish is a must to disguise ugly toenails!!!!!!!

I cross my heart hope to die, I won't tell anyone you swore:P

From marion on Tue, Jul 08, 2008 at 08:52:47

yeah- the 10 club! I'm 5'9" and size 10 too, but my running shoes are MENS size 10.5 double E. I could actually stand the shoe to be a bit wider, but hey, I can't have it all!

From leslie peterson on Tue, Jul 08, 2008 at 10:51:58

To all my big footed friends! Waddle on! I am a member of the club too, I am sporting a nice size 9 in pretty girl shoes, but when it comes to running I am a 10 or 101/2! Better for balance don't you think?

Hey, I have heard that about weight weight loss too, what I heard is that every pound you lose you shave off one minute of your marathon time. I don't know how they figure this out, but it makes sense that with less weight we will run faster.

A dollar for every mile??? Holly Moly that would be over a $120 a month!!! My gosh Maurine, I am not a Corporate girl like you, I need to think of something a whole lot cheaper..... nice idea for you rich folks though!!
