Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

I am just getting to my computer, it is after 11:00pm, we have been on the go all day and I am exhausted. I will do a race report later. I did finish in 5:34 and was happy with that. I will check on all your blogs soon.

I am finally  a wake and can write a race report.  I got to the expo and spent almost 2 hours walking around buying all kinds of fun running gear, I had my eye out for all my Redhot Running Chicks and didn't see any of them. I did see a family friend, Craig Cannon and an old friend Keiko.  After the expo we went out for dinner with some of Harolds kids and his boss.

I got up at 3:45a and Harold dropped me off at the park to catch the bus at about 4:15.  Again I looked for my RHPC's and saw no one.

The race started at 6:45 and I got in the 5:30 Cliff Pacer group.  5:30 was my goal. I stayed with the group until mile 10,a  fun group of about 20, with the leader being Maurine's double, red short hair, identical build and gait. It was pretty freaky, it was like running with my ol' buddy.  She was 57 years old and a very seasoned runner from LA.  I stayed with them until about mile 10 and then had to use a bush, and of course, after that I never quite caught up, I could see them in the distance for a quite a while.  Shortly after that I met up with a cute Polynesian girl Rene, that reminded me of my daughters, that was 35 and we stayed together for an hour or so, found out I knew her father at BYU-Hawaii and he actually was the person who hired me to be a dorm parent on campus.  Small world. The time flew by as we talked about people we knew in common.  She told me how she was invited to run St. George because while running Ogden in 2007 she was hit by car and taken to the hospital, she was also pregnant with twins, all 3 of them were okay, but it was a pretty scarey situation and it did get some media attention.  She was adorable and I hope I can get in touch with her and keep up our friendship. She had a really bubbly sense of humor and wore a head band that said "In my dreams I am a Kenyan"

I am not sure when I started to get ahead of Rene, but I was watching my garmin and trying to catch up with my group, so I did leave her behind.  I felt like my pace was pretty consistant thru the whole race.  Many years I spend quite a bit of time walking after I am down into the city, but I kept my pace even though I was tired and came in at 5:34.  This seems to be about my average speed if you were to look at all my 19 marathons, I was really happy, never got too uncomfortable and did feel strong at the finish.  I am attempting the Pony Express 50 miler in less than two weeks, so this was a perfect training run.

I was also looking out for my friend Karen Boothe and I noticed she came in 30 seconds after me, and I never saw her.  How funny is that?

After the race I we went home and I showered and then we hung out with the grandkids at the pool and then went to the 10 Year Banquet.  I saw Karin Rowley get inducted into the club and visited with her for a few minutes and saw acouple other friends and made some new ones.  There are now over 1,200 people in the club.  They put on a wonderful dinner.

So, I was super happy with the way things went. I feel pretty darn good this morning too. We got up and went and picked up the newspaper  to check out the race results.  I look at them differently from my Running Chicks, I look to see how many in my age group come in AFTER me, there were 159 in my age group and 18 came in after me.  SWEET VICTORY!!!!  haha!  I love it!!!!

What a GREAT day :) You are such an inspiration to me :) The 10 year club sounds so cool. I suppose I'll have to actually get into St George to be in that club ;) Congratulations!! I can't wait to see what the 50 miler brings.

Great job Leslie. In my Dreams I am a Kenyan used to be the title of someone's blog. Or maybe still is and I haven't been to it for a while. Can't remember.

Good job, woman! Glad to read your race report. You sure sounded positive when I talked with you last night. Much better than last year.

Just talked with my son. His car was stolen at the U last night. :(

Thanks everyone! I had a great St. George marathon weekend. I felt great all thru the race and had a wonderful time with friends and family. Now to rest up and gear up for the 50 miler!!! 11 more days!!!!!

From Kelli on Mon, Oct 05, 2009 at 12:24:14 from 71.219.96.151

Great race report, you are such a sweetheart! I still can not believe I never saw you---and I started the race right by you apparently. I hopped in the line right behind the 5:30 pace group. But it was dark!!!

Nice job, recover well and get ready for the big one in 2 weeks!

From leslie peterson on Mon, Oct 05, 2009 at 12:53:59 from 76.23.61.78

Kelli, I know!!! You were right there!!!! I assumed you were up in front. How are you feeling this morning? Are you going to lose any more toenails? I decided the faster you run the more damage is done, you guys are so hard core, and I am in the back yaking my head off and enjoying the scenery and coasting along, la-de-da. Your race report and the others all just blow me away!!! I am going to drive out and check out the Pony Express route today, I am getting so excited about this! I wish you could join me!!!

From Kelli on Mon, Oct 05, 2009 at 13:19:37 from 71.219.96.151

I actually jumped in when the announcer guy said, "The 5:30 group has just passed the start line." So, I was back there a bit. I just ran on the side for 2 miles and it was nice!!

NOW, I do not think what you say is necessarily true. I saw Walter at the outlets and he was just hopping around not even tired. I commented how amazing that was since we had run the same marathon, but he said, "Yeah but you ran almost an hour longer. That is like me running 36 miles!" So, the longer you run, the harder it is. Does that make sense?

I have no toenails to lose! The 4 that I lose all of the time are already gone. Well, the big toes was half grown back, but it was black before the race so it was on its way!!! Toenails are so stupid.

CONGRATS on a wonderful race and in the 10 year club. Funny how you never saw Karen Boothe. I am so happy for you.

Hope you're having a great day. I need to pick your brain about ultra running. THANKS for checking on me. I am doing FINE! Seriously, I AM. Don't worry.

From Smooth on Tue, Oct 06, 2009 at 15:44:25 from 97.126.216.41

Don't be sad. I'm taking a break from blogging so I can spend some time with my friends close to home. I do care about my FRB friends like you so I will "drop in" regularly! Love ya!

From leslie peterson on Tue, Oct 06, 2009 at 15:53:29 from 76.23.61.78

I do understand Smooth, I am glad you will drop by every once and awhile, I sure enjoy following all your running adventures. You are my inspiration!! You have taught me that us more mature runners can really RUN if we work hard and train! Now if I would just work hard and train!
