Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

This morning we got out the door at 4:50am to hit the road.  We had all of the Running Chics except for Erica, who has some injuries and couldn't join us.  So there was Jen, who is this cute little 29 year old, speedy Gonzales Des who is in her 30's and Lisa, the 40 year old and mother of baby twins, and me the Mother Hen , that is 53 years old.  Up until today I have kept up with my little chics, it has been hard because I usually just run for distance, but these gals are "on a mission" and they have busy lives and need to get this running done and back to their families before their husbands go to work.  Today was hard, we really clipped along.  We parked at the Old Mill Corporate Center and ran along Holladay Blvd road until it turned into 2300 E and ran all the way to the freeway and turned around and came back.  We did our 11 miles in 2:13, which was about a 12:24 pace, the girls had to stop acouple of times for potty breaks and I was very relieved and took advantage of some time to walk. I was behind them most of the way, but arrived to our destination about 2 min. behind them, not bad for the old Mother Hen!!!

Here are the mile splits:

10:48

10:29

12:02

14:48

15:55

12:00

11:01

10:59

11:56

12:56

13:57

We did a 8min run/1min walk interval.  It was hard work, but a fabulous work out. My little chics are SOOOO  AWESOME!!!

PS. I went to the pool and did 40 lengths, it took me 29 minutes, I need to do 70 lengths to equal my swim at Jordonelle, I have a LOOONG way to go!

Man, you truly are a crazy lady!!!! Is your goal to run only 30 miles, or at least 40 because you still have 3 days to go and only have 6 miles left. Wow! You really are ultra aren't you!?

From Leslie on Wed, Jul 02, 2008 at 10:41:58

Lauri, I am cramming it in because we are heading up to Huntsville tomorrow and I don't think I will be running up there. I will be lucky if I get my 30 in! Those young whipper snappers are kicking my butt!!

Leslie - you are awesome and my inspiration!! I'm so glad we went today so we could all go together. Have a great weekend.

You cute little mother hen you! Way to go on an awesome 11 miler! I think that is a good mother hen to bring up the rear and make sure all are home safe and sound! If you can get 2 miles in each day while you are at Huntsville it will serve you well!

Thanks girls! I just got up from a nap and those heels are talking to me!! I think the roads are tough on me, but not tough enough to give up running with my little chics! They are whipping me into shape! But when I run alone it is going to be on trails, this old body has a hard time on the asphalt. Kim, thanks for the advice, I will at least do a 2 mile walk every day!

While in Huntsville you can go and visit the monks and buy some of their honey:) Available in a wide range of flavors, including rum. They also make and sell peanut butter. You can also go in and listen to them sing their hymns. It's beautiful, I think it is all in Italian but I can't remember. Have a great weekend.

Thanks Laurie, do you think I could get straight rum? I think that's what my body needs!!!! You have a great weekend too!!

I am amazed by your miles/races/longevity/energy. You are an inspiration to keep it going on! I'm not too much younger than you, but I absolutely get how it is running with younger, busyier ladies. Keep it up and keep blogging about it! I love to read how you keep going, and going, and going!

What an awesome run! You are one speedy mama! I am glad the heel things are helping. I have noticed a difference with the trails vs. asphalt too. Hey, if you find the rum, be sure and let us know how that helped with the heels and the asphalt! I may need some to make it through the day with my little darlings ;) Maybe I'll just give it to them and we can have an extra long special nap time!
