Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

***See Sunday's note, that was my run today!!

PS.  I had to go up to Snowbird to pick up my final winter pay check and decided while I was going up I would run the Little Cottonwood trail.  It was scorching hot, I made it up one mile and turned around, giving me a big 2 extra miles to add to my day.  What was I thinking??  I think we are into full blown summer!!!!

I wanna do the Little Cottonwood Trail with you! (whine)

From marion on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 12:00:05

It sounds beautiful! Ok it's hot, but so are you! ;)

From leslie on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 13:27:36

Girls, you need to come up and do the trail with me!!!!!

From marion on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 13:49:33

I'm game. How far, and more importantly how fast are you? :)

From leslie on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 14:11:51

Marion the trail is 3 miles up and then back, alot of the time I will hike up at a brisk pace and run down. Let me know if ever want to do it, and I will call Maurine and we will hit the trail. I have a better trail run that is still covered with snow, that is AMAZING, It is just over 11 miles, the Wasatch Crest trail, you run along the ridge line, starting up near Gaurdsmans Pass, up by Brighton and run along the ridge and then down into Millcreek. I do it every weekend that I can. It is gorgous, you can see Park City on one side of the ridge and Brighton and Solitude on the other side, it is a part of the Wasatch 100 route. We should plan a run!

From leslie on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 14:20:30

Oh, Marion, I am not sure of my pace, but trail running isn't as fast, with your speedy 10 mile pace, you would be fine. I am much better at covering more distance and not going fast.

From maurine on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 14:26:03

Marion - I kick Leslie's butt going uphill. She pushes me past my limits going downhill. However, it is on this trail last year that I had the 'perfect run' when I felt like I was flying.

I'm game for Wasatch Crest again. It will be nice to do it without a hip injury. :)

We also need to take the BST and see how far past Draper it extends. 3 more weeks!

Sounds wonderful! (3 mile hike up and running down) Just my idea of fun! My first free Sat is July 5th then august 16th (how sad is that?) I am filling in at the Provo center most Saturdays and if I am not working there, my kids have swim meets.

Are you guys running Hobble Creek?

From maurine on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 15:53:40

I will be packing on the 5th because I am moving the next weekend.

Leslie is actually doing a triathlon on August 23rd and I will be running the Park City Marathon - so neither of us will be doing Hobble Creek. Too bad - I used to love running down there when I was separated and living with my father.

From leslie on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 16:00:28

Marion, I am sure with 6 kids, weekends are wild. I will be out of town on the 5th, but keep me in the back of your head for Aug.16th, and if we both end up not filling it up with kids and life, then we can go for it, I am easy to work with, if it works great, if not I understand completely.

I wish I was doing Hobble Creek, I have done it acouple of times and love it. I like it better than the Provo River half, however than one is nice to. I remember when I did Hobble Creek years ago, they gave the women flowers and little business like cards with your time and place and pace, I thought it was extra nice. I wonder if they still do all that, you will have to let me know. It was nice scenery and I loved the downhill. I LOVE downhill! Anyway, that was a long note, but if it works out for the both of us, that would be great!

From leslie on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 16:11:22

Oh, Marion, I just remembered, I have a dry run on the triathlon course that day, a free practice type clinic. Dang, one of these days!!!! If you have to come up to SLC for any reason and have an hour on so we could do the Cottonwood trail...something to keep in the back of your mind. SO MANY RUNS SO LITTLE TIME!!!!

From marion on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 16:12:13

I'll jot you down for the 16th :) I seriously plan that far in advance. Sick and weird, I know. My life is so different than I had ever pictured ;)

DO NOT BUY Ben & Jerry's Creme Brule Ice Cream. It is the DEVIL! 8 stinkin' POINTS for a 1/2 cup. I thought I'd have a little 6 POINT snack, a little indulgence in the afternoon, and son of a gun- I ate 15 POINTS worth of heaven. I am now pointless. I guess it is stirfry for dinner. Why don't I listen to my own advice and NEVER eat anything before you figure the points!!! AAAAGH!!!!! (sorry for the outburst)

From leslie on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 16:16:21

Shut up!!! Creme Brule is my most favorite food in all the land!!! I didn't know there was a Ben and Jerry's creme brule. OH MY GOSH! Another 2 miles for you!! It is nice to know you are a real person, welcome to my world.

I have to plan that far out to, it is crazy, we will try again!

From marion on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 16:31:42

I am sorry I told you, I am aiding and abetting criminal eating habits! The sad thing is, for me to earn enough activity points to counteract that indiscression, I'd have to run for 110 min! AAAAGGGGHHHH!!!!

Bummer, tie up those shoe laces! ( just teasing!)
