Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

Mean Maurine made me get up early and run fast.

6.2 miles total - 1:12:46

2 miles warmup

3 miles speedwork - 10:07 / 10:04 / 10:08

1.2 miles slow/cooldown

****  Okay, I had Maurine put the splits on my blog this morning for me, I messed up on mine. I met Maurine at her house at 5:30 am and had a great run.  The course was flat, along 7th east.  It was hard, I was definitely out of my comfort zone, but was surprised it was do-able.  I am hoping I can do a weekday run with Maurine once a week for speedwork, she has gotten so fast that my speed work is her recovery run, it really helped to have her right there coaxing me along.  I do breath like a freight train, I was working hard enough that conversation wasn't easy for me. It looked like it was a walk in the park for her. I am excited to see what she does at the 5K on Sat.  I am going to pass on the 5K and say this was mine this morning.  My time would have been  30:19  ( sort of,  that is 3 miles and not 3.1)  I was happy with that.  THANK YOU MAURINE!!!!!!!********

Great workout! It sounds like you ladies had a nice run. Keep up the good work!

BTW, I'm still really excited for your TX race at the end of the year!

AWESOME JOB!!! You have your own little personal trainer, perfect!!! Those are great splits. It is hard tog get out of your comfort zone and stay there, but you did it!!!

Have a great day!

From Marion on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 13:51:00

Nice run my dear! You and I will catch up to these speedy ladies some day :) Way to go!

How is Paul today?

From leslie on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 13:51:05

Thanks Deb and kelli, you are right, getting out of my comfort zone was tough, but do-able, it REALLY helps to have a nice personal trainer gently pushing me, I am not sure I am motivated enough to do it on my own yet, but give me a few weeks and I bet I will. I just hope Maurine can work with me for a few weeks and get me over this mental barrier. I really don't like to hurt. Waaa Waaaa

Marion, Paul is doing GREAT!!! I think he is finally out of the horrid stomach pain, Julie said he was happier last night that he has been in awhile and wanted to do his homework, he slept well last night. Hopefully we can move forward now from this point on.

I am so excited for you and Maurine to do your 5k! I am a party pooper, I pushed as hard as I want to push for now, but I do believe I can make small improvements with my time now. Thanks to Maurine the Most Excellent TRainer!!

Leslie- speed work one day a week is plenty for you (and me). You are doing great and are my inspiration! We can do this- you already do :)

From leslie on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 14:25:20

Thanks Marion, If I can sneak down, I may come watch, but I am not sure what my hubby has planned. I think one day a week for us on speed work is enough too.

How is the cruddy tummy doing?

From Marion on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 14:39:32

It's settling down and I am happy. My head hurts a little, but I think it was a fluke that will be over today :) Well a chocolate fluke ;)

From Smooth on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 16:37:09

Leslie, EXCELLENT speed work out this morning!!! Those are awesome consistent pace too!!! I know there's speed in you. It just take a little gentle pushing from Maurine, the youngster and CEO of the club, to bring it out of ya.

I'm happy to hear that Paul is on the mend and things are looking up for him and Julie.

Will you join us on the Lehi JRP on Sat? The weatherman says rain, so the trail should be clear of snow. Harold can ride his bike around. It will be fun to see you again.

From leslie on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 16:43:03

Smooth, Maurine is awesome, if I can stick with her, I know I will improve. I hesitate to do the Lehi run, I would be sweeping alone, which is actually fine with me, but I think I will pass. I have a new baby neice in Provo, so I may go watch Marion and Maurine run the 5K and visit with family, still not sure, who knows, Harold and I could show up, but don't count on us. You guys have a blast, I love that trail!!! I will be thinking of you all if I am not there!!

From Smooth on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 17:22:02

Okey dokey. Keep on running and remember to run happy. I will see you next time.
