Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

I took Odee over to the Porter Rockwell trail and did some cold winter running, it was a good time. I pushed alittle harder than my normal solo shuffle and was happy with my time. I will keep pushing up my speed very slowly and try to get up to doing a 10 min mile for a 6 mile run. I would like to be able to do the RHPC half marathon at a 10 mm pace.

6 miles 1:10 AP 11:53 I felt great, there were times I was below a 10 mm pace. I am excited!

Good job, Les and Odee. That is a great pace. What a good way to start out the week.

Of course, we are going to have to get the Odeester into shape - because he has been the limiting factor on some of my runs.

Thanks Maurine, it felt good and prety easy, I think my 10 mm goal is super do-able. I was thinking about your comments on your "junk miles" and realize most of my miles are just that, you know just drifting along mile and after mile and not making any effort, I think just by being aware of that and pushing just a tad, my running will improve.

Yes, I am really going to make the effort to get Odee out on my runs, it means getting in the car and driving, but he LOVES it and so do I. I think I will be living on the PR trail, it really is perfect.

How are you feeling today?

From Kelli on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 14:43:44 from 71.219.100.181

Great job Leslie! This snow is getting on my nerves, so good for you for running in it!

From Marion on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 17:15:18 from 71.213.107.235

Great miles Leslie! We are SO going to do a 10mm for the RHPC 1/2 :) We will get there :) You are WAY too cool for words!!! How about whenever it snows we get to go out to dinner?

From Snoqualmie on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 17:48:36 from 67.171.56.164

I'm no expert, but I would recommend following a hard day / easy day pattern. Your easy days will also speed up eventually, but for me it helps to have "pressure" on me every other day rather than constant. Just a thought. Great run!

From leslie on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 18:01:01 from 76.23.61.78

GIRLS, okay, a 10mm pace for a half would be a time of 2:11, if my pace chart is right. That would mean I have to cut 7 minutes off my Bryce Canyon half time, and I was really giving it my all, but with all my buddies around, I might be more motivated!!

Sno, I love that idea, I probably would burn out, trying to push every day. I am going to give that a try!

From Marion on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 18:21:29 from 71.213.118.108

Les- Just push one day a week for now. One day at your goal pace, gradually increasing the mileage each week or every other week. We don't want any injuries :) Injury free 2009 :)

From Kelli on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 18:23:23 from 71.219.100.181

Accept for blisters.

From tarzan on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 18:30:25 from 97.117.61.64

Only Kelly 'accepts' blisters. I try to not allow them.

Leslie (here I will disagree with the others) if you continue cross training you could probably push 2-3 days a week of running. I am assuming you are talking about the kind of pushing we have done in the past where you just go slightly out of your comfort zone and make an effort. I think there is a big difference between that kind of pushing and the pushing that many of you do when you are running.

From leslie on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 19:39:13 from 76.23.61.78

Maurine and Marion, to clarify, I am really taking baby steps, I will never push to the puke zone or anywhere near. I just want to put in alittle more effort than I have been doing, believe me I will push myself too hard, I don't even know how. But thanks for your comments and concern!

Love and Kisses,

Granny Slow britches

sorry, a typo, I will NOT push myself too hard

From tarzan on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 19:42:00 from 97.117.61.64

See - I know you. Remember - I'm the one who has tried to push you in the past and can only do it sneakily.

From Marion on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 20:16:23 from 71.213.118.108

That's why I say one day a week. Kicking your own bum one day a week is doable, especially if you know that the rest of the time you can lallygag around :)

From snoqualmie on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 21:35:00 from 67.171.56.164

Well, there's kicking your own bum, and then there is "pushing." How about a day of kicking, and one or two other days when you just give it a little more gas? I like to call some runs "moderate," which usually means I'm concentrating on my form (which naturally speeds me up a bit), or just give it a little more power. I guess I shouldn't say hard/easy; more like not easy/easy. lol It should be fun, imo. :)

From leslie on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 00:14:14 from 76.23.61.78

You guys all are so cute! I think I am not as serious as any of you, I just mean I am done with my zombie shuffle, so I will just be aware of my pace and try and get it alittle faster, okay, I will push alittle on some days and alittle more on other days. No one ever has to worry that I will ever push to hard, I just don't care enough about speed. A 10 mm is my top speed.

Sno, what does imo mean? I thought it was a sour cream substitute?

From tarzan on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 08:41:58 from 97.117.61.64

imo - in my opinion

From walter on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 09:43:29 from 76.27.13.75
