Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

I got up this morning to go to my strength training class at 5:00.  I was sore when I woke up. Mon. we did upper body, and Tue. lower body, I hurt from head to toe.  We did upper body again, thought I was going to die.  We also did 3 miles on the treadmill.  This is brutal.

The plan was to meet Gary in Park City at 7:00a  and run the Mid-Mountain trail marathon route.  I knew it was a bad idea because my body felt crippled, but I couldn't resist.  I have wanted to try that route for several years, and Gary was game so I decided to give it a try. I new from the get go I was going to struggle, I plugged along, half running, half shuffling, thank goodness Gary is super patient with me. He loves the plant life and spent alot of time checking out the wildflowers and taking mental notes so he could check his books when he gets home.  I am glad he has this interest so he can do something while he is waiting for me.  Usually we know the routes and he can just run ahead, but this was new territory. There are SO many trails on those mountains, we got off on the wrong trail several times.  Hours later, we get to a sign that said14 miles to an access out of the canyon, I told Gary to go ahead and I would start down  and he could pick me up on the main road.  I headed down and got lost, I had to back track up about a mile and half up a super steep mountain and was about to die.  I finally made it down and called Gary and told him where I was and fell sleep in a shady spot off the road.  Dumb, I should have stretched, my legs froze up and I felt like a 90 year old woman.  Long story short, Gary made the whole 26 miles, I did about 17 in Park City and 3 in the gym, so I had a big day. I need to take it easy so I can do the RHPC Half without a walker!!

That sounds like a great adventure and a lot of fun (except for the getting lost part). I was up on the Wasatch Crest this morning looking into Park City and it had to be the best sunrise I have seen all year. I hope you got to enjoy it.

Lucky you Scott! It was fun to try out a new route, but there is nothing on earth as perfect as the Wasatch Crest!!! I need to go check out your blog!!

HOLY COW! Leslie!!! That's a lot of mountain running with a sore body. You're iron woman! I would have fallen asleep in the shade too if I had to get up that early. GREAT JOB!!! Gary sounds like a wonderful trail running partner. I'm so happy you got to do that.

Rest up, hydrate well. Was it HOT at Mid-mountain? No running 'till Sat. Check out your mileage this week already. You need a massage, a nap, something good to eat! Can't wait to see you on Sat. Hope Karen comes.
