Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

I did 5 miles on the treadmill in 59:39 min.

The scale dropped  .7 pounds this morning

That's it folks!  Have a nice weekend. If anyone wants to join Muarine and I for a sunny run in Park City let us know, maybe  lunch after.

Nice miles, nice time! I wish I could come tomorrow :( Have a fun and a safe time! I off to the showers!

From Kelli on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 12:18:06

I wish we did not have b-ball games to contend with becasue I would be there!!! Darn it, but I think the air is clearing, so our run in Riverton will hopefully not kill me tomorrow.

Great job on the .7!! That is awesome for one day. You are doing so great! I gave in to food yesterday, but i also missed lunch so WW point wise I was actually fine. BUT, my body did not agree and went up 4 pounds overnight. That is BUNK. I hate the scale! That is what happens when you sit on your behind all day and do nothing!!!

Scott is at the gym right now, I am headed out for 2 hours of working out when he gets back (I told him he only gets one hour as he got to work out yesterday and I did not!)

OH---and great work out! Awesome pace!!!

From leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 12:49:32

Marion, have fun reading, that sounds like heaven right now.

Kelli, the scale is evil, it messes with our head and turns us into crazy women, don't let it fool you, tomorrow it will be down and life will be good once again. Have good weekend, and a great run tomorrow, I do hope the air is cleaner.

From leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 14:19:37

I just registered for the Ogden Marathon, I think the early reg. ends soon. Just so you know...

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 16:23:17

Leslie, nice TM miles and pace. Sweet .7 drop today. You are doing awesome with your Biggest Looser contest.

I haven't registered for Ogden. I haven't even registered for Spectrum. I better get on the ball. Are you running Ogden Full? Have fun running Park City with Tarzan tomorrow. I'm jealous.

From leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 17:11:57

Smooth, yes, I am doing the full, so is Maurine, Marion is doing the half, I am not sure about Kelli. Kelli what are you doing? Smooth are you thinking of the half or full, or do you have other plans? I may be doing the spectrum, I haven't signed up yet, but my little Running Chicks are doing it, so I may tag along. Half the fun is planning these runs!

Nutrition is still going well, but I am starving right now, I need to stay focused, I will go organize my closet and stay out of the kitchen

From Kelli on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 17:47:22

Scott and I are running the full. Well, he is RUNNING and trying to get his BQ, I think I am just going to jog it! I much prefer jogging to running!!!

I just ate candy corns. Great when added to my froot loop breakfast! BUT, still going good with the points for today, I even have room to eat out and have popcorn!

Next week I am going to eat healthier and try NOT eating my workout points! I found while training for the marathon that I needed them and I finally got to my weight that I wanted, but it is not working any more. So the workout points are going to go away for a bit, then I will be starving!

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 17:54:03

I am taking one race at a time. I have to do Spectrum for the runner series. I would like to do Ogden Full. My grandbaby #4 is due on May 10. You won't believe this. Last year my grandbaby #3 was due on May 10. He came the week after Boston. So I was lucky to be able to do Boston and Ogden 26 days later. BTW, all my grandchildren live out of state. My daughter-in-law is so sweet. This is her first baby. Her parents are on a mission in Scottland. She told me I should still run Ogden and just come to Iowa after the race.

So, the perfect scenario for me is to be able to BQ at Boston; then run the Grand Slam for fun.

Good thinking about staying focus. Do stay far far away from the kitchen.

From leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 17:56:41

Oh good! I am glad you guys are doing the full, do say hi as you run by! We will have to see if we can plan a party before or after.

I just ate popcorn, I am having one of those days where all I think about is food, I am still okay, but I only have about 500 calories left for dinner, so I need to go get a diet coke and REALLY go organize my closet and stay out of the kitchen.

YOu make me laugh, candy corn and Fruit Loops! You can tell you have wee ones!! I would starve myself silly if I didn't eat my workout points. Good luck on that one Kelli girl!!

Oh, BTW HELLO BURT!! Sorry for my lack of social skills!! Will you be doing Ogden too?

From Kelli on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:01:03

Burt is just messing with us, we can ignore him. Or ANNOY him, whichever works better!

I am on the computer so I will not eat!!! You can tell how hungry I am by how much time I spend on the computer!

From leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:03:31

Smooth, the Grand Slam after Boston! Oh my, and try and squeeze in a grandbaby too! You know that sounds like a wonderful running season to me, can I tag along?

So you can qualify for Boston at Boston?? So are you going to try and do Boston every year?

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:05:24

Leslie, I just read your 2009 race schedule on the left. You want to run a NEW marathon? How about the Utah Valley Marathon on June 13. You don't have any race in June.

From leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:06:08

oops! I am confused, I thought Burt wrote on my blog....

From Kelli on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:09:12

He wrote on your blog, just on a different day (I think it was Tuesday).

From leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:10:03

Smooth, yes I do want to run a NEW marathon. Have you done Utah Valley? What is the course like? Have you done it? Are you doing it? My June is open, I will have to really give this some thought. I think I am going to try and stay as local as possible because my Texas run is going to be pricey enough. I decided to scratch my Bryce Canyon even though I loved it, I need to be frugal this year. Our stocks tanked too!

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:10:32

I don't know if I CAN BQ at Boston this year. But I did in 2008. If I don't BQ at Boston '09, then I'll try for it at SGM '09. Yes, I want to run Boston every year 'till Larry retires and we go on a mission.

Running the Grand Slam keeps me training year round. It's crazy for always recovering and tapering. You're the experienced marathoner here. I need to catch up with you, can I tag along? BTW, how many marathons have you run?

From leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:11:17

Thanks Kelli for straightening me out! I thought I was losing my mind. Dang I need that diet coke!

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:14:24

Utah Valley is part of the Grand Slam. It was brand new last year when it was run in April, the week before Boston. This year they don't want to compete with SLC or Boston so they move it to June. The course starts at the top of Provo River like the Provo River 1/2, then around Orem foothills, then out to the Provo Airport area. It should be a good course. The only factor is June is a bit warm.

From Leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:16:21

Okay Smooth, I am glad you asked, people always ask me and I say about 15 lets see:

12 St. George( last year I DNFed in the storm)

Tou

Park City

Ogden

Yep, that was 15, plus I have done 3 50Ks and attempted a crazy 24 hour run in Moab and made it 42 miles before I dropped out.

And you, my dear how many and which ones?

From Leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:21:42

Oh, they added it to the Grand Slam! So do you still have to do the Days of 47? I hear that is awful. Utah Valley does sound like a great route, but you are right, that is going to be a HOT one, and for as long as I take to run it, I could be in trouble. I still think I might give it a try.

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:23:14

WOW!!! 15 marathons!!! THREE 50Ks, one 24 hour run? You ARE a WOMANIMAL!!! Now you're gonna add that 50 miler this year!

I am not worthy. I've only done a measely 12 marys. Hey, you can do the 60 by 60. You only have to do 45 more before you turn 60.

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:26:38

The DesNews (Days of 47) was brutal. I ran it the last two years. It trashes your quads. Utah Valley wouldn't be that bad especially if they start the race early. The Provo River Trail is shaded most of the way, in the canyons and through the parks in Provo to Utah Lake.

From Leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:28:48

I love it! WOMANIMAL!!!! Well 15 marathons in 13 years is nothing compared to your 12 marathons in what 3 years! You have me beat all to heck! My first 10 years of running, I only did the St. George, it has been in the last 3 years I decided I wanted to run more often, now I can't get enough, I may turn into a crazy woman like you now. I prefer crazy over normal anyday though. Okay, I need to go to the Seve and get this diet coke before I break out the Valentines Day candy my darling husband bought to torture me with.

I wonder if Marion is really reading her book, or spying on us and not responding?

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:29:43

O FYI, the Grand Slam this year includes:

Ogden, Utah Valley, Park City and St. George.

TOU is an alternate. To finish the Grand Slam you have to run 4 of those 5 marathons. To compete in the Grand Slam you have to run all but the alternate one. SEE, Leslie, if you do the Grand Slam every year, you can reach the goal of 60 by 60.

From Leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:31:38

Oh, yeah, and the 60 by 60 sounds Perfect! ARe you doing it? Is it an offical club? I have done the Provo River Half, it is nice, I think I am going to plan on the marathon. Thanks for helping me plan my 2009 schedule!

From Leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 18:34:21

I will think about it, I think Maurine is doing the Grand Slam too, she did it last year, and maybe the year before too. You girls are mighty ambitious!

From leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 19:54:20

Smooth, I forgot I have done the Portland marathon, that is 16! I need to redue my info on my blog.

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 23:46:02

Check you out!!! Sweet 16!!! Harold needs to build you a trophy/medal display case/rack for all these races you've run. Ogden will be #17, Utah Valley #18, St George #19. Do the Slam already, just add Park City and you'll round up your marathons to 20 in 2009. You're INCREDIBLE and way too humble!!!

From leslie on Sat, Jan 24, 2009 at 00:02:23

Harold is about ready to put me in the funny farm, I mentioned the Grand Slam and he rolled his eyes at me. I may have to do it, since you and Maurine are doing Park City, why not?

I just got back from the Sun and Moon resturant and I was such a good girl, we had 3 decadent desserts at the table and not a bite! I didn't touch the appetizers and took off the top part of the bun on my chicken sandwich. Holly cow, I am on a roll!

This has been fun, I am really considering the Grand Slam, it would be perfect training for Sunmart!

Good night ladies! Sweet dreams!

From Marion on Sat, Jan 24, 2009 at 09:56:35

Ok- since you ladies are ABANDONING HObble Creek- I guess we'll have to meet somewhere to party???

You're not nuts. Maybe David, Harold and Larry will have to form a "Our Wives are crazy runners so we need a club" club! They can go do non running man stuff while we run.

From Marion on Sat, Jan 24, 2009 at 09:59:00

OH and les- you dessert resistance is for the record books! I ate the WHOLE pint of Ben and Jerrys Cherry Garcia Light! ...and a 1/2 a snickers bar :(
