Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

Crash and Burn!!  I ate so few calories yesterday that I woke up really weak, went to the gym and struggled thru 2 wimpy miles..... BUT  I did drop one pound!  I just ate a bowl of whole wheat cereal with berries and nuts and I feel great.  That's it for me today I have a super busy day.  Off to beautify the world, one head at a time!!!  :)

Biggest Loser Contest week #5   3 pounds

So, is that 3 pounds this week or 3 pounds total???

You NEED to eat, didn't you watch Biggest Loser this week? I have learned over and over again (cause I never seem to get it the first time) that I need to eat to fuel myself. I will think I am going to just purge myself for a day and eat nothing substantial (soup, jell-o, apples, some bread, so on) but then I will remember that I have to run the next day and I will give in and eat! YOU HAVE TO EAT!

Hey, was that a lecture??? Hope not.

You beautify the world just by being in it! Have a great day and eat.

Leslie, Leslie, Leslie....(Shaking my head) EAT A COOKIE! (I'm sure I've never lectured you about not eating enough - right?)

Good job on the weight and inches lost!

From Teena on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 14:57:25

You go beautify girl!!

Hope you are having a wonderful day!

(make sure you get enough calories)

From leslie on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:19:33

Kelli, I know I didn't eat enough yesterday, but I can't seem to drop weight without making a pretty big sacrifice. Now I just need to hang on to this one pound loss and make sure it is gone for good, they are slippery little suckers! I am back to good nutrition. I appreciate all of your comments, I am flattered that you care enough to give me your advice. I look forward to you and everyone elses tips and words of wisdom. Oh, and BTW, it was 3 pounds for the whole 5 weeks, not very impressive, but slow and steady is good I guess, maybe I can keep it off this time!

Maurine, the cookies are all gone, I give one to every lady that comes over and my kids. I need to make a new batch.

Teena, thanks! I usually get my share of calores plus some extra ones, I don't think there is any problem with me wasting away!! :)

From Marion on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:19:46

That explains why I had sugar cookies for dinner last night, for breakfast this morning, and for lunch today! I was eating for you! Now I feel SO much better ! I am a philanthropist! I am going to be eating fruit, veggies and hummus and maybe some chicken for the next 4 days. LOTS of fruit!!!

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:31:35

3 pounds is 3 pounds!!!! YEAH for you!

I try to NOT EAT as well, it just never works for me! It backfires because the next day I will eat like a HORSE!!!

Have you ever tried the Progresso soups with the WW points on them? They are light or something like that, I can not remember. They say ZERO points but that is if you eat half of the can. The entire can is 2 points (go figure). Anyway, I have been downing those this week. They keep me FULL for a few hours for very little points. I eat 2 pieces of Sara Lee Delightful Wheat bread with it, for a total of 3 points. It has saved me this week! Then, I have room for a bigger points dinner to fuel my working out for yet another day! It is 1:30 and I still have 14 points left to eat today!

Anyway, that is working for me right now. Things may change, but just thought I would suggest it to you. It is hard to stick with your points and still feel like you have energy the next day to work out. The bigger dinner has helped me this week.

Have a great day, I am off to the copy store. I hate being a room mother and I will NEVER do it again! The school is running low on paper and toner, so I HAVE to pay for the copies, on top of everything else I have already bought for the dang party!! NEVER AGAIN.

From leslie on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:44:30

Kelli, I never did totally master the WW points, I know it works, I always ran out of points by dinner time, and I do need a good dinner to fuel my runs. Thanks for the soup and ww bread tip!! I think a "hot" dish is a big help mentally, more satisfying. I will try that tomorrow.

From leslie on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:49:12

Kelli, I know what you mean about the room mother thing, my theory is let the new moms do it, they are eager,we did it for our little ones, but by the time we get to the end of our little kiddles it is a burn out for sure, don't feel guilty, you have served your time! Do Kelli stuff, and then you will be able to enjoy your kids after school if you are taken care of. I guess you got a lecture from me today too!!! I think you are awesome!

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 17:22:29

The problem is, I worked when the others were little. This is my first time, but I am done!

From Sunnyrun on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 17:32:13

Great job on dropping the pounds!!

From leslie on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 17:48:42

Sunnyrun, thanks!! You would have thought I won the lottery, but 3 pounds is big for me, if I can keep it up now.

Marion, I wanted to thank you for eating cookies for me, that was probably what saved me from breaking down last night!! You are a Saint!

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 23:07:13

Leslie,

3 pounds in wk 5 is VERY AWESOME!!! You know that's the SURE and SAFE way to loose. Always eat a healthy breakfast. You're breaking a fast of no eating after 8 pm; that's 10 hours of fasting. I always drink and eat a light breakfast like yogurt and Kashi cereal before run; then eat more after the run. I usually have some protein (boiled eggs, PB&J sandwich, nuts), milk, water and vitamins mid morning.

From leslie on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 23:19:08

Smooth, I usually do that too, but I just HAD to get that scale to move this morning! Now I will get back to my healthy eating. oh, you had to mention PB&J, that sounds SOOO good right now, I think I will stick my nose in a book instead though. Good night Smooth and the everyone!

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 23:25:50

Yes reading, no thinking of food. Sorry I was the evil tempter. Good night!

From Marion on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 23:43:24

Oooh Smooth, I hadn't thought about that. I am going to break my breakfast up into two smaller meals. I never eat before I run, I am going to try your great idea Smooth :)
