Personal:

I started running at age 40 (14 years ago!)  I am married to Harold, he is a super supportive husband and we enjoy running and biking the trails along the Wasatch Front together. Between us we have 7 children and 9 grandchildren.  I am really having fun trying new races in scenic parts of Utah, I am a newbie in the ultrarunning world, I am slow, but love everything about it!  I have a lot to learn, but I am enjoying the journey.

Bummer!  I woke up with a bladder infection, so I am heading off to the doctor in a few minutes.  I know once I get the meds going I will be just fine, but it is a big goose egg for today!  This is just alittle to close to Painters for me, but I will get this taken care of! Rotten luck!

So sorry about the infection, good thing you have few days to get it under control for Painters.

My hip has been bugging me since the week before Thanksgiving. I sure have gotten good at stretching since then!

From tarzan on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 10:20:38

Les - sorry you are not feeling good. Get on the medications, drink lots of water and lots of cranberry juice. You will be fine for Painters!

From leslie on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 12:43:23

I just got back from the doc, I do have an infection, I caught it super early, I am sure I will be fine by tomorrow. I talked to my doc more about my PF and have some new exersizes and a new med to take for inflamation that I am going to try. Weight is an issue with PF, I really think if I can get off 10-15 pounds, that will really help. I am on a mission, I have a full race schedule and I need to get in shape! Speaking of weight, can we start carbo loading now??? hahahaha! I just had a bagel and some pasta and I want to think it was a smart move and not slurg!!! I am so naughty! Now off to see Bride WArs with my girls!!

From leslie on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 12:45:36

typo!!! splurg! That doesn't look right, whatever.....hopefully Burt won't read my comments. He is the Nazi English Teacher!

Leslie -

You're one brilliant girl, catching that infection early.

OK girls, be sure to carb load with good carbs and portion-wise. We don't want to have too much junk in the trunk for Painter's. Eat the potato with Mrs. Dash or Butterbud, skip the real butter and sour cream. Eat whole wheat pasta, skip the white kind. Have a little lean protein, it will keep you full longer. My rule of thumb for nutrition on race week is: eat a little more protein (fish, eggs, nuts) earlier in the week than carb; then 2 to 3 days before race eat a little more carb. Hope this makes sense.

thanks smooth!!!

From leslie on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:03:34

Thanks Smooth! It makes perfect sense and starting right now I am taking your advice. Hey, do you have a recommendation for a good whole wheat pasta for my salad I am making for Friday? Or is white pasta okay for the night before?

Bride Wars was cute, I always enjoy a chick flick with my girls!

From Smooth on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:20:34

Just got back from Oliver Garden. We had the all you can eat soup, salad and breadsticks. Their new Chicken Gnocci soup is really good. I also had the Minnestrone which is low fat with lots of vegetables. And I do believe woman can "live by bread alone". I had 3.5 breaksticks.

For the dinner before race, aka the "last supper", there's no need to worry about white or whole wheat. The main thing is you don't want to try anything new. You can eat whatever you're used to so that you know it won't bother your tummy. The hard part for me is to try not to eat too much. It's all about potty training. :)

I want to see Bride Wars. My hubby loves to take me to chick flicks. It makes him laugh.

From Marion on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:30:40

I am with you Susanna- I am afraid I will eat too much. I am a social eater and LOVE to eat :) Bad combo. Hopefully my nerves will get the better of me and I won't be able to eat too much :)

From leslie on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:32:40

You have a good hubby! Mine will take me, but he has to act like it was a major sacrifice and then I have to go to a dumb guy movie and return the favor. Oh, well, it works.

Whew! I will make my white pasta salad the for the big dinner, but I am following your advice for the rest of the week.

I am not sure 3.5 breadsticks would fit into your tiny body. Tricky girl!

From leslie on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:40:02

Marion, I am the same way, I am really going to try and keep things under control for the rest of the week and not over do it. WE WILL DO THIS SMART! Thanks Smooth for the tips, you always give great advice!

From Kelli on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:43:38

Sorry you are ill, but glad that you are smart enough to catch it and you will be well in no time!

So, the movie was good, huh? I was wondering about that one. I get to pick the next movie (we take turn here---so it is bloody war movies, then chick flicks when I dare). I want to see Marly and Me first, I think, then we will go for the Bride Wars in February some time. I have these two friends who are LUCKY enough to have all of their kids in school. They go to a movie and lunch once a week---I am jealous!

PLEASE tell me you will all try a chocolate mint brownie the night before a race??? If not, I will have to eat them all!

From leslie on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:51:48

Kelli, I really liked Bride Wars because I was with my girls, any chick flick is fun with my girls. If I went with my hubby, I am not so sure I would say the same thing, cause I am always thinking he is just putting up with it to please me and so it is not as fun. Now, Marley and Me was great, Harold and I both enjoyed that one, that is a better movie for a married couple I think.

You will really kick up your heels when the kids are all in school! It really is fun to have all that "me" time and time with girlfriends and all the extra running time.

Kelli, of course I will eat one of your brownies!!! You can count on me!!!

From Marion on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:54:53

I will eat the brownies FOR SURE!!! I may eat the rest of them after the race :) You can use them to coax me on :)

I lOVE movies! We can catch at matinee in St George :) Popcorn is a carb :)

David will go to any movie. He protests a bit, but ends up loving most of the chick flicks :)

From Kelli on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:56:27

There is a thought---we can go to a movie!!!

PMing you right now about a little time change, though! But just LITTLE!

From Smooth on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:57:44

Kelli -

I love anything with chocolate in it. Brownies are my weakness. So can I blame the brownies if I don't PR at Painter's? :)

From Kelli on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:59:17

We can blame the brownies for all of our problems! I have not had one in over a month, I am so excited for a brownie!!!

From Smooth on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 17:00:04

Marion & Kelli,

MATINEE MOVIE!!! I am jealous!
